Joseph Seiders, a drummer associated with The New Pornographers, was arrested in Palm Desert, California, on April 9, 2025, after reports involving minors. The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office initially said he faced charges including possession of child pornography; in June, the agency said additional charges had been filed after investigators identified two more alleged victims. These are allegations, not findings of guilt. His current court disposition has not been verified.
What led to Joseph Seiders’s arrest?
According to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded at 3:55 p.m. on April 7, 2025, to a reported suspicious circumstance at a business in the 73000 block of Dinah Shore Drive in Palm Desert. The agency said an 11-year-old boy told deputies that an unknown adult man had recorded him on a cellphone while he was using a restroom. This is the sheriff’s office’s account of a report, not an adjudicated finding. Riverside County Sheriff’s Office
On April 9, the sheriff’s office said it received another report at the same location. An employee reported seeing a man enter and leave the restroom with juvenile males and believed he was the person involved in the earlier report. Deputies identified the man as 44-year-old Joseph Seiders of Palm Desert and arrested him.
The sheriff’s office said investigators searched Seiders’s residence, vehicle and cellphone under warrants. The agency stated that evidence implicated him in the two reported incidents and additional crimes, including possession of child pornography. That statement describes the agency’s allegation; it is not a court determination.

What were the initial charges?
The sheriff’s office reported the initial booking charges as possession of child pornography, annoying or molesting a child, invasion of privacy, and attempted invasion of privacy. The Los Angeles Times reported that Seiders pleaded not guilty on April 11, 2025, to the charges then pending. A not-guilty plea is not a verdict. Los Angeles Times
What changed in June 2025?
In an update posted June 6, the sheriff’s office said investigators had identified two additional victims who were not associated with the initial incidents. The agency said additional charges were filed with the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office on June 5. It listed charges including committing lewd acts with a minor by force or fear, using or coercing a minor to produce child pornography, possession of child pornography, annoying or molesting a child, and invasion of privacy. The sheriff’s office said the investigation was ongoing. The additional charges, like the initial ones, are allegations and do not establish guilt. Sheriff’s Office June 6 update
