Christy Turlington and actor-filmmaker Edward Burns married in San Francisco in 2003, according to the most specific wedding account in the available reporting. They have two children, Grace and Finn. Burns has described how they aligned on major family decisions and coordinated work travel; those are his reflections on their life together, not a formula for marriage.

When did Christy Turlington and Edward Burns marry?

The Knot reported that Turlington and Burns married on June 7, 2003, in San Francisco. British Vogue’s biography gives the year as 2002. CBS described them in 2012 as having been married for ten years, but that broad count does not settle the discrepancy. The Knot’s date is the more precise account, while the sources do not agree on the year.

How did they meet?

In a 2012 CBS interview, Burns recalled that a mutual friend suggested setting him up with Turlington, who initially declined. He said they later crossed paths at an outdoor charity event in the Hamptons. The interview presents that event as a turning point in their courtship; it does not establish that it was their first-ever meeting, and accounts of their earliest encounter vary.

Who are their children?

Turlington and Burns have two children, Grace and Finn. British Vogue reports that Grace was born in 2003 and Finn three years later. The couple have generally kept family details out of the spotlight, so the public record supports the basic timeline without needing further personal detail.

What has Burns said about their shared priorities?

In a 2025 Esquire interview, Burns said, “It’s a cliché to say, but communication has been the key.” He also described being aligned with Turlington on major decisions, including remaining in New York and putting their children and marriage first. These are his account of their priorities, rather than a claim that every couple should make the same choices.

How they coordinated work and family

Burns told The Irish Times in 2024: “We both were committed to staying in New York, and making sure that, if we did have to travel for work, we were never travelling at the same time.” His description offers a concrete example of how they handled demanding schedules when possible, without implying that the arrangement was always feasible or that it captures every aspect of their family life.

How their relationship intersected with their work

The Groomsmen

Burns said in a 2006 CBS interview that, after their wedding and conversations around them about marriage and friends’ relationships, Turlington encouraged him to revisit a script and write a more honest version. That script became The Groomsmen, a film about friendship and marriage. The account connects a personal milestone to his creative process without suggesting that the film is a direct account of their relationship.

A first project together

In 2017, Turlington and Burns appeared together in Calvin Klein’s Eternity Intense campaign. Turlington described it as their first work together, saying they had been married for almost 14 years and “really hadn’t worked together before.”
