Peter Sutherland, Rose Larkin, Chelsea Arrington, and Maddie Redfield stop a plot to kill President Michelle Travers and cover up the Metro bombing. Travers survives because she is not aboard the exploding Marine One. Vice President Ashley Redfield survives, Gordon Wick escapes, and Diane Farr survives her wound. Peter learns the truth about his father, then boards a plane as a newly recruited Night Agent while Rose returns to California.
What was the conspiracy behind the Metro bombing?
The bombing was not an isolated attack. Vice President Ashley Redfield and defense contractor Gordon Wick arranged it to kill Omar Zadar, whose presence on the Metro line they knew about. Peter stopped the train before the plan could succeed, and Zadar survived. The conspirators then tried to conceal their roles.
Rose is drawn into the investigation after her aunt and uncle, Emma and Henry Campbell, are murdered. They were Night Action agents and had become a threat to the cover-up. Wick sent assassins Ellen and Dale after them.
Colin was the bomber, but the events that brought him into the plot involved a mistaken-identity killing. Wick’s assassins were sent to kill Colin but killed his identical twin, Matteo, instead. Colin survived by taking Matteo’s identity. Later, believing Redfield was responsible for what happened, Colin kidnapped Redfield’s daughter, Maddie, to force him to confess.

How did Peter and Rose stop the Camp David attack?
The conspiracy’s target grew beyond Zadar. President Travers was meeting Zadar at Camp David, and the plot now threatened both of them. Peter and Rose worked with Secret Service agent Chelsea Arrington and Maddie to stop the attack.
Marine One exploded, but Travers was not on board. She survived, as did Redfield, who was in the bunker. Wick used his resources to escape. Farr, who had helped Redfield cover up the original plot, was wounded but survived. Creator and showrunner Shawn Ryan said she would face a difficult criminal trial. The finale leaves the conspirators’ outcomes uneven rather than resolving every threat neatly.

Was Peter’s father actually a traitor?
Yes, in part. A confession tape reveals that Peter Sutherland Sr. accepted money and passed information about private contractors to a foreign agent. The information contributed to a Pentagon breach. But that was not the whole story: he later worked as a U.S. double agent to repair the damage and was killed in that effort.
The revelation gives Peter a more complicated family history, but it does not erase his own choices or moral code. Ryan described the show’s recurring danger as characters making bad choices for what they believe are good reasons, then sliding into worse decisions and losing their way.

Is Peter a Night Agent now?
Yes. After the Camp David operation, Peter asks President Travers for the truth about his father. In the final scene, he boards a plane and opens a Night Action mission brief. He is no longer just staffing the emergency line from the White House basement: he has been recruited for field work.
That promotion also changes the stakes. Ryan said Peter’s strict moral code would be tested by harder choices and greater danger in the field. The scene sets up Season 2 as the next chapter in his work as a Night Agent.

What happens to Peter and Rose?
They part ways at the end of Season 1. Peter leaves for his assignment, while Rose heads back to California to pursue her technology ambitions. The finale does not settle what their relationship will become.
What to remember going into Season 2
- The original target: Redfield and Wick planned to kill Zadar in the Metro bombing and hide their involvement.
- The Campbells’ deaths: Emma and Henry were killed because their Night Action work put them close to the truth.
- The surviving conspirators: Redfield lives, Wick escapes, and Farr survives wounded but faces a difficult criminal trial, according to Ryan.
- Peter’s new role: He boards a plane with a Night Action mission brief as a field Night Agent.
- Peter’s father: He betrayed U.S. secrets for money, then later served as a double agent in an effort to undo the damage.
