No. Jesus and Antonio Estrada were not the first twins to compete on the U.S. Project Runway. Claire and Shawn Buitendorp appeared together in Season 16, years before the Estrada brothers competed in Season 21.
Who were the first twin contestants cited in the U.S. series?
Claire and Shawn Buitendorp competed as designers in Season 16. Lifetime’s 2017 cast announcement lists both sisters among the season’s 16 designers. In its recap of Season 16, Episode 7, Lifetime referred to them as “#DesignerTwins” and described a challenge involving the sisters (Lifetime’s episode recap).
That establishes the relevant comparison: a twin pair competed together in the U.S. series before Season 21. It does not establish a count of all twins who have appeared across every international edition of the franchise.
How did the Estrada twins join Season 21?
Season 21 featured brothers Jesus and Antonio Estrada. D23’s July 31, 2025 season announcement identifies Jesus as a Season 7 alum returning with his twin brother Antonio. ABC News also included both brothers in its Season 21 cast preview.

- Board game
The season announcement listed 12 designers. That figure provides context for Season 21’s cast; it is not a count of twin contestants across the show’s history.
What did Jesus Estrada say about returning?
In an interview with ABC7 Los Angeles/Localish published September 25, 2025, Jesus reflected on his return: “I never imagined in a million years that I’d be doing Project Runway again”. The comment captures his personal reaction to competing again; it does not change the earlier Season 16 precedent.
