The $71 million figure refers to the OMG Girlz’ original 2024 jury award against toy maker MGA Entertainment—not the damages amount in the current district-court judgment. After a 2026 retrial on punitive damages, the amended judgment kept $17,872,253 in compensatory damages and added post-judgment interest. The court also stayed enforcement until 30 days after the appellate mandate.
What the $71 million award included
In September 2024, a jury found for the OMG Girlz on specified claims involving certain dolls in MGA’s L.O.L. Surprise! O.M.G. line. It awarded $17,872,253 in compensatory damages and $53,616,759 in punitive damages, for a total of $71,489,012. The district court’s 2025 judgment entered that original total.
Associated Press coverage described the verdict as $71.5 million, a rounded account of the original award. It is not the amount left in the amended judgment after the later punitive-damages retrial.
How the judgment changed
| Stage | Amount or result | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| September 2024 jury verdict | $17,872,253 compensatory damages and $53,616,759 punitive damages; $71,489,012 total | The original award reported as about $71.5 million. |
| July 1, 2026 punitive-damages retrial | Verdict for MGA on punitive damages | The jury did not award punitive damages in the retrial. |
| July 22, 2026 amended final judgment | $17,872,253 compensatory damages, plus post-judgment interest at 3.99% | The amended judgment left the compensatory award in place. Interest runs from July 22, 2026 and compounds annually. |
The 3.99% rate and July 22 start date are those specified in the amended judgment. An earlier April 2025 judgment set a different rate, 3.972%, from April 15, 2025; that earlier rate is not the rate the amended judgment specifies from July 22, 2026.

Which dolls and claims were involved
The case was not a finding that every doll in the L.O.L. Surprise! O.M.G. line infringed. MGA filed suit in 2020 seeking a declaration that its products did not violate intellectual-property rights asserted by the OMG Girlz. The group and related entities, T.I., and Tiny pursued counterclaims. The amended judgment recounts findings concerning particular dolls and particular theories.
Dolls named in the OMG Girlz’ counterclaims
The 2024 jury found trade-dress infringement and misappropriation of name, likeness, or identity with respect to Chillax, Roller Chick, Metal Chick, Bhad Gurl, Prism, Miss Divine, and Runway Diva.

Dolls named in MGA’s declaratory-judgment claims
The amended judgment also lists Downtown B.B., Punk Grrrl, Virtuelle, Honeylicious, Miss Independent, City Babe, Shadow, and Miss Glam as infringing trade dress and/or misappropriating identity. The findings were limited for two of these dolls: Shadow was found to infringe trade dress only, while Miss Glam was found to involve misappropriation only.
Where the case stood on October 4, 2026
The July 22, 2026 amended final judgment says the court will address attorneys’ fees and costs after the appellate mandate. It stays enforcement until 30 days after that mandate. The mandate’s status is not established by the appellate information cited here, so it would be inaccurate to say that enforcement has resumed.

There are two distinct appellate matters to keep separate. The Ninth Circuit denied MGA’s petition for permission to appeal under 28 U.S.C. § 1292(b), docket 25-7523, on January 26, 2026. That denial is not a resolution of the separate merits appeal, docket 25-3448. The available listing for the merits appeal was last retrieved on July 14, 2025, and does not establish its current status or whether a mandate has issued.

“T.I. and Tiny awarded $71 million” is shorthand for the original verdict in the OMG Girlz’ intellectual-property dispute with MGA. The $71 million total included a large punitive-damages award that did not survive the later retrial. The district court’s amended judgment retains the compensatory damages award, while the appellate mandate remains relevant to enforcement and the later handling of fees and costs.
