Spoilers for the entire first film. Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle resolves three major confrontations, but it does not end the fight against Muzan. Zenitsu kills Kaigaku, Shinobu dies after poisoning Doma, and Tanjiro and Giyu defeat Akaza. Akaza’s recovered human memories lead him to stop regenerating and accept death. The remaining Demon Slayers are still fighting inside the shifting castle, with Muzan at large.
What happens at the end of Infinity Castle?
The film’s final stretch follows three fights with three different outcomes. Zenitsu’s confrontation with Kaigaku ends in Kaigaku’s death. Shinobu is killed by Doma, but her poison weakens him and Kanao continues the battle. Tanjiro and Giyu defeat Akaza, whose death comes only after he remembers his human life and gives up regenerating.
Those outcomes are not a final victory for the Demon Slayer Corps. Muzan remains hidden somewhere in the moving Infinity Castle, and other fighters are still caught up in the battle. The ending closes Akaza’s story while handing the larger conflict forward.
Why does Akaza stop fighting?
Tanjiro finds a way around Akaza’s Compass Needle
Akaza’s Compass Needle lets him sense an opponent’s fighting spirit. Tanjiro’s breakthrough is to use the Transparent World while suppressing that fighting spirit, making it harder for Akaza to track his movements through the technique. With Giyu fighting alongside him, Tanjiro can land the decisive attack.

![Demon Slayer (Kimetsu no Yaiba): The Movie - Mugen Train [Blu-ray]](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/51Gof-Z4l7L._SL160_.jpg)
- Tanjiro Kamado, joined with Inosuke Hashibira, a boy raised by boars who wears a boar's head, and Zenitsu Agatsuma, a scared boy who reveals his true power when he sleeps, board the Infinity Train on a new mission with the Fire Pillar, Kyojuro Rengoku, to defeat a demon who has been tormenting the people and killing the demon slayers who oppose it!
Akaza remembers being Hakuji
The physical defeat is only part of the ending. Akaza’s memories of his human life return: he was Hakuji, whose father died; he later found a place with his teacher Keizo and Keizo’s daughter, Koyuki. After revenge and tragedy, he became a demon. Those memories reconnect him with the person he was before Muzan’s influence shaped his life as Akaza.
Akaza begins to regenerate, but ultimately refuses to continue. His final choice is not simply the result of Tanjiro’s blow: he remembers his human self and accepts death rather than rebuild his body. That makes this fight a personal conclusion for Akaza, even though the battle around him continues.

Who dies, and which fights remain unresolved?
| Confrontation | Outcome by the film’s end |
|---|---|
| Zenitsu and Kaigaku | Zenitsu defeats and kills Kaigaku. |
| Shinobu and Doma | Doma kills and absorbs Shinobu after she uses poison to weaken him. Kanao takes up the confrontation; Doma is not defeated in this film. |
| Tanjiro, Giyu and Akaza | Tanjiro and Giyu defeat Akaza. After his memories return, Akaza stops regenerating and dies. |
Tanjiro and Giyu are badly hurt in the closing stretch, but the film does not present their fight as the end of the Corps’ campaign. The final sequence points toward the other confrontations still underway.
Where is Muzan?
Muzan is still inside the Infinity Castle, which shifts around the Demon Slayers and obstructs their attempt to find him. The official setup places the plunge into the fortress after Muzan appears at the Ubuyashiki Mansion, but this film does not show the Corps finding or defeating him. His fate—and the fate of demons beyond the fights resolved here—remains open.

Is the ending a cliffhanger, and will the story continue?
Yes: the larger story is unfinished by design. Crunchyroll announced the Infinity Castle adaptation as a three-film series, so this first film’s handoff to remaining battles is part of a planned continuation, not a resolution of the whole story. No release date for the next film is established here, so a specific date should not be treated as confirmed.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Where should you start the Demon Slayer manga after the film?
If you want to continue in the source story rather than wait for the next film, VIZ’s catalog lists the manga through its final volume, so the manga offers a completed-story route while the film trilogy remains in progress. GamesRadar points readers to chapter 158, near the end of volume 18, as a continuation point. That is a guide’s chapter handoff, not an official studio or publisher instruction; VIZ describes volume 18 as containing the relevant Akaza and Doma material.
