On August 26, 2021, Shakira introduced Teddy, a dog, and Toby, a rabbit, in a video shared on Instagram. The clip showed the two animals following her around her home; it did not establish when they joined the family or whether they are still with her today.
Who are Teddy and Toby?
Teddy is a dog, and Toby is a rabbit. Shakira introduced them together in a post whose caption, as reproduced by People en Español, read: “Meet Teddy 🐶 & Toby 🐇! Two little personalities that bring so much joy! ♥️ Así son Teddy & Toby! #EstaEsMiMascota”
What happened in the video?
The footage showed Teddy and Toby trailing Shakira around the house. People en Español reported that Teddy was learning obedience tricks, while Toby responded to his name and hopped over when called. Shakira spoke to Toby as he followed her: “Are you following me? What are you looking at? Why do you follow me around everywhere I go?”
Unicable also quoted Shakira describing Toby as “Ay, es que este viene como un perrito” (“Oh, this one comes like a little dog”). That is her affectionate comparison about Toby in the clip, not evidence that rabbits generally behave like dogs.

When did Shakira introduce the pets?
People en Español and Telemundo both published coverage on August 26, 2021. Telemundo reported that the video had received more than 330,000 views at the time its page was published; that dated figure is not a current view count.
Were Teddy and Toby newly adopted?
The video reports do not confirm an adoption date. Unicable noted that Teddy appeared at different stages of growth in the video and inferred that the animals might not have been newly acquired. That observation is not confirmation of when either pet joined the household.
