Debra Marshall’s wrestling career crossed WCW and WWF: she began as Queen Debra, associated with Steve “Mongo” McMichael, then became a manager and occasional in-ring performer in the WWF. Her clearest individual title milestone came on May 10, 1999, when she defeated Sable in an evening-gown match for the WWF Women’s Championship.

From WCW’s Queen Debra to the WWF

The Women’s Wrestling Hall of Fame dates Debra Gale Marshall’s WCW career to 1995–1998, where she performed as Queen Debra, and her WWF run to 1998–2002, under the name Debra. Its inductee summary provides the broad timeline.

A contemporary April 23, 1999 SLAM! Wrestling interview describes the WCW character as a beauty queen associated with her then-husband, Steve “Mongo” McMichael. In the WWF, she presented a different version of herself: a business-suit-wearing Southern belle. In the interview, she said she felt more confident in that role after leaving WCW.

Her WWF role: manager first, performer too

By April 1999, Debra was managing Jeff Jarrett and Owen Hart. She spoke positively about working with them and said she felt secure with the pair. Her role was more than standing at ringside: the interview describes her using distractions as part of the act, alongside Jarrett’s guitar.

Debra framed that behavior as performance rather than a guide to her private temperament. “You know what? It is definitely entertainment. It’s show business and we’re here to make money. Sex sells and that’s just the way it is,” she told SLAM! Wrestling. The remark was her explanation of the character and wrestling’s entertainment business, not a measured claim about the industry.

The 1999 Women’s Championship win

Debra’s most prominent individual title achievement was defeating Sable in an evening-gown match on May 10, 1999, to win the WWF Women’s Championship. The result and match format are recorded both in the Women’s Wrestling Hall of Fame summary and in Online World of Wrestling’s Debra profile, last updated April 13, 2025. The match format reflected the entertainment-driven presentation of the period; the available career summaries establish the result, not a broader assessment of the match’s significance.

Her later WWF appearances and the 2002 endpoint

The Hall of Fame summary says Debra later appeared on-screen with her second husband, Stone Cold Steve Austin, and that the pair left the company in 2002. That establishes the broad endpoint of her WWF career, but not a definitive reason for her departure or a detailed chronology of her final appearances. Her connection to Austin alone does not establish the circumstances.

What “forgotten” can—and cannot—mean

“Forgotten” is a subjective description, not a conclusion demonstrated by these career records. The sources do establish a cross-promotion career, a shift from Queen Debra to a WWF manager character, and a championship win. They do not measure how often audiences remember her, explain why her WWF run ended, or provide a dependable account of her later life.
