Brentwood has been connected to several high-profile deaths over many decades, including the December 2025 deaths of Rob and Michele Reiner. The cases happened at different places and under different circumstances; their history does not establish that Brentwood has an unusually high death rate.

What Hollywood deaths happened in Brentwood?

Three cases explain much of the neighborhood’s association with Hollywood deaths: Marilyn Monroe’s death in 1962, the 1994 killings of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman, and the deaths of Rob and Michele Reiner in 2025. They are distinct events, not one continuous pattern.

Date Person or people Location and what is established
1962 Marilyn Monroe The Los Angeles Times says her death brought Brentwood notoriety. The cited account does not establish further primary-source details here.
1994 Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman The Los Angeles Times reports they were found stabbed to death outside Brown’s Bundy Drive condominium. The Associated Press places that scene about a mile from the Reiners’ home.
December 14, 2025 Rob and Michele Reiner LAPD says officers responded to a death investigation at the Reiners’ residence in the 200 block of South Chadbourne Avenue, where the victims were identified as Robert and Michele Reiner; the initial investigation determined they were homicide victims.

What happened in the Reiner case?

On December 14, 2025, Los Angeles police officers responded to a death investigation at the Reiners’ home in the 200 block of South Chadbourne Avenue. LAPD’s December 15 account says the victims were identified as Robert and Michele Reiner and that the initial investigation determined they were homicide victims. LAPD’s statement documents the response and identification.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney announced charges against Nick Reiner on December 16, 2025, describing Rob Reiner as “one of the greatest filmmakers of his generation.” In an August 12, 2026 update, the DA said Nick Reiner had been indicted and pleaded not guilty to two murder counts. The case remains pending: the charges are allegations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty. See the charging announcement and the August 2026 update.

How should Brentwood’s history be understood?

The deaths are associated with different addresses and decades apart. The Brown-Goldman scene was outside a Bundy Drive condominium; the Reiner investigation concerned a residence on South Chadbourne Avenue. The Los Angeles Times connects Monroe’s 1962 death with Brentwood’s notoriety, but the sources cited here do not provide comparable scene details for that case.

The Associated Press describes killings in Brentwood as rare. That is a qualitative characterization, not a count or a measured rate. The sources provide no neighborhood-wide comparison that would support calling Brentwood unusually dangerous or claiming these cases reveal a broader trend.
