Rhona Mitra did not announce a formal retirement. In a 2025 interview, she said she had left Los Angeles and built a life in Uruguay, where she rehabilitates horses through The Last Ark, while continuing to take acting work. She is still appearing on screen—but the claim that she has three upcoming movies is not verified as written: one of the three items cited in an IMDb career-page listing is a video game, and the other two are listed as post-production projects without confirmed release details.
Why did Rhona Mitra leave Los Angeles?
In Adam White’s August 2025 interview, Mitra connected her departure from Los Angeles to deeply negative experiences in the entertainment industry and a desire to build a different life. She described her decision in stark terms: “But fundamentally, it was to save my soul.” Read the interview.

That account is more specific than claims that she stepped away for family responsibilities or deliberately waited for better scripts: the interview does not establish either explanation. It also does not describe a formal career hiatus. The TechYorker article speculates about a late-2010s hiatus but gives no reliable, attributable explanation.
What is she doing now?
Mitra lives in Uruguay and works with The Last Ark, rehabilitating horses. The move changed the setting and shape of her life, but did not amount to a clean break from acting. Her account of the sanctuary and her life there appears in White’s interview.

Is Rhona Mitra acting again?
She has continued acting. Rotten Tomatoes’ filmography lists credits from The Fight (2018) through Red Sonja (2025), including Archive and Skylines (2020), The Other Me (2022), and Shadow Land and Hounds of War (2024). That record contradicts the idea that she stopped acting after the late 2010s, though a filmography database is not a complete account of every role or of the reasons for quieter periods. See the filmography.
Her recent Red Sonja role
Mitra told White that director MJ Bassett offered her Red Sonja and that she accepted partly because she needed money for horse feed. The interview reports that the film became available digitally and on DVD and Blu-ray on September 8, 2025. Read the Red Sonja details.

Does Rhona Mitra have three upcoming movies?
Not on the evidence behind that claim. An IMDb career-page listing reviewed for this article shows three upcoming items, but one is Squadron 42, categorized there as a video game. The other two—The Experiment and Mother Knows Best—are listed as post-production projects. That listing does not confirm their release dates or establish that all three items are movies. Check the career-page listing.
The TechYorker article names Shadow Frontlines, Echoes of the Past, and New Dawn as Mitra’s supposed upcoming films. Its page provides no attributable production information for those titles, and they are not corroborated by the reviewed career-page listing. They should not be treated as confirmed projects. See the article making the claim.

As of the sources reviewed for this article, release dates, distributors, and production details for The Experiment and Mother Knows Best remain unverified. A post-production listing is not the same as an announced release; confirmation from a production company or distributor would be needed to call either a definite upcoming film.
