When she went to hospital and what the Palace said
Kensington Palace announced on 17 January 2024 that Catherine had been admitted to hospital the previous day for planned abdominal surgery. Its statement said the operation was successful. The Palace’s statement gave an expected hospital stay of ten to fourteen days and said that, based on medical advice at the time, she was unlikely to return to public duties until after Easter. Those were expectations reported then, not a guarantee.
What was disclosed about the surgery
The Palace did not identify the underlying condition. It said Catherine wished to maintain normality for her children and keep her personal medical information private, with further updates to be provided only if significant new information arose. The statement described the operation as planned abdominal surgery; it does not support conclusions about a diagnosis.
