In “Try, Try Again,” Amy Larsen is recovering in hospital but cannot stop acting like a doctor. The episode’s central question is whether that instinct makes her return to work compelling—or makes the push feel too soon. An episode-specific review excerpt says she asks the hospital board to let her return as an attending physician; the official synopsis, meanwhile, sets up her involvement in a roommate’s case and the reversal of her former role as chief and current role as patient.

What happens in “Try, Try Again”?

“Try, Try Again” is Season 1, Episode 2 of Doc. FOX’s official episode description says Amy inserts herself into her roommate’s case while recovering in hospital, as the doctors and nurses adjust to seeing their once-formidable chief as a patient. FOX scheduled the episode for January 14, 2025, from 9–10 p.m. ET/PT.

Apple TV’s U.S. listing identifies it as Season 1, Episode 2, gives the title as “Try, Try Again,” and lists a 41-minute runtime. Runtime and access can vary by platform and region. FOX styles the title with an opening ellipsis in its release; the episode listing uses the title without it.

Why does Amy want to return so quickly?

The title’s “controversial reason” points to Amy’s desire to resume clinical work while she is still recovering. An accessible excerpt of a CBR review by Brittany Frederick, dated January 15, 2025, says Amy pushes the board to allow her return as an attending physician. The excerpt frames the episode as setting up whether she can practice medicine again, but it does not reveal the full review’s argument.

A fan-site recap supplies the more specific sequence: it says only four days have passed since Amy’s accident when she asks about returning, goes before the board, and is initially turned down. The recap also says Michael later urges Max to accommodate Amy’s disability and find a way for her to come back. Those timing and board-meeting details come from the recap, not FOX’s official synopsis.

Does the return-to-work conflict feel earned?

Clinical instinct versus patient status

The episode’s most immediate tension is the contrast between Amy’s professional reflexes and her own need for care. The official synopsis establishes that she becomes involved in her roommate’s case even as she recovers, while colleagues must adjust to treating their former chief as a patient. That role reversal gives the medical setup a character-focused point: Amy’s knowledge may remain sharp, but the story also places her inside a recovery she cannot simply observe from the clinician’s side.

Urgency versus institutional process

The review excerpt and fan recap make Amy’s job request part of the same conflict. The four-day timeline reported by the recap makes the urgency conspicuous; the board’s initial refusal supplies institutional resistance, and Michael’s later advocacy introduces the possibility of accommodation. That combination makes the question more complicated than whether Amy still wants to work: it asks whether her return can be shaped around changed circumstances rather than treated as a simple restoration of her old position.

What the episode’s setup does—and does not—establish

The official synopsis foregrounds the roommate case and the staff’s adjustment to Amy’s new role as a patient. The review excerpt broadens the focus to her ability to practice again, while the recap adds the board dispute. Together, these details support a reading of the episode as both a case story and a workplace drama. They do not, on their own, establish how later episodes resolve Amy’s return or whether the show ultimately makes the decision feel realistic.
