Hints for Strands #158
Try these in order, stopping when you have enough to continue:
- The theme is “Splashy event.” Forbes’ August 7 guide also offers the gentler nudge “Summer backyard fun.”
- The spangram clue is “H2 Oh yeah!”
- The spangram crosses from the left edge on row 4 to the right edge on row 5, according to TechRadar’s guide.
- If you need an in-game hint, the guide suggests finding three valid non-theme words. Its suggested helper guesses are SALT, SASS, LOOT, DONE, DRINK and SCARE; these are not puzzle answers.

How Strands hints work
Strands is played on a 6-by-8 grid. Words may trace vertical, horizontal or diagonal paths and change direction. The spangram describes the theme and touches opposite sides of the board. The third-party Strands.Game rules page says that finding three valid words that are not theme answers unlocks a hint highlighting one theme word; it is not an official NYT rules page.
