Hart’s reported system scores wrestlers in three categories—“the look,” mic skills and wrestling ability—out of 10 each. Applying that framework to WWE women’s wrestlers requires judgment, and the scores below are this article’s, not Hart’s. The available sources do not establish that Hart ranked WWE women this way or define the scope he used when rating other wrestlers.
What is Bret Hart’s wrestler rating system?
In comments from episode seven of Confessions of the Hitman, transcribed in a July 14, 2020 report by Wrestling Inc., Hart describes three categories, each worth up to 10 points:
- The look: A wrestler’s visual presentation and how convincingly it establishes a recognizable persona.
- Promo or mic skills: The ability to sell yourself as a wrestler on the microphone—through character, confidence and communication.
- Wrestling skill: How well the wrestler performs in the ring. For this article, that includes execution, match structure, adapting to an opponent and telling a story, not merely the number of moves.
The maximum is a simple sum of 30. Hart’s examples show that the scale is personal rather than standardized: he reportedly scored Hulk Hogan 10 for look, 10 for promos and 2 for wrestling, for 22/30. Hart’s own reported self-assessment was 21/30, but the report preserves variation in his category estimates: he gave himself 4 or 5 for promos, saying he might rate his prime higher, and 9 or possibly 10 for wrestling.
WWE’s interview with Natalya offers useful context for interpreting the in-ring category. She describes Hart as well-rounded and says he put a story into his art, which she associates with submission wrestling. WWE’s Bret Hart profile likewise emphasizes an economical style that focused on an opponent’s weaknesses and built toward the Sharpshooter. Those examples inform this article’s interpretation; they are not a separate scoring formula Hart published.

How this ranking applies Hart’s framework
The ranking below is an editorial application of the three categories, not a claim about Hart’s personal preferences. The candidate pool focuses on prominent WWE women from different eras, using names and career context in WWE’s Top 25 Most Impactful Women feature. That feature ranks impact, not performance under Hart’s criteria. It is a starting point for historical context, not the scoring authority.
Era matters. Presentation, promo time and opportunities to wrestle varied substantially across WWE history, so the comparison cannot be perfectly like-for-like. The scores assess each wrestler’s WWE presentation and body of work as represented in that context. Championships and historical influence help explain a career, but they are not additional scoring categories. Ties remain ties; no fourth criterion is used to break them.

| 10 | Mae Young | 7 | 7 | 7 | 21 |
1. Trish Stratus — 27/30
Stratus takes the top spot for a strong balance across all three categories: a distinctive presentation, confident promos and a body of work that supports a high wrestling score. WWE’s historical feature calls her the greatest Diva of her time and records seven Women’s Championship reigns. Those accomplishments establish stature, but the score comes from the three categories rather than the title count.

2. Lita — 26/30
Lita’s look was immediately recognizable, and her high-flying style gave her matches a distinct identity. Her promo score is a point below Stratus’s, while her wrestling score matches it. WWE’s feature records four Women’s Championship reigns; that history helps place her career in context without serving as a bonus point.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3. Chyna — 26/30
Chyna’s commanding presentation earns the ranking’s highest look score. Her character communicated physical credibility before a match began, and she made a strong impression on the microphone. The wrestling score reflects her role and accomplishments in the ring while recognizing that she worked in a different environment from later generations. WWE’s historical feature notes her Intercontinental Championship and Women’s Championship achievements.
4. Beth Phoenix — 25/30
Phoenix combined a forceful visual identity with the physical credibility to make her matches feel consequential. Her wrestling score is among the strongest in this group; the lower promo score reflects a less defining microphone profile than the wrestlers above her. WWE records two Women’s Championship reigns and her participation in the 2010 Royal Rumble.
Rank #3

5. Mickie James — 25/30
James earns a high promo score for making character and emotion legible in her segments, with solid presentation and ring work alongside it. Her total ties Phoenix’s, but the category balance differs: Phoenix scores higher in wrestling, while James scores higher on the microphone. The tie stands rather than being resolved by championships or influence.
6. Molly Holly — 23/30
Holly’s wrestling score is her strongest category: clean execution and dependable match work make her especially persuasive in the ring. Her presentation and promos were effective, though less distinctive than those of the wrestlers ranked above her under this scale. A score here measures those three dimensions, not how much a particular fan values her consistency.

7. Alundra Blayze — 23/30
Blayze’s in-ring ability and clear presentation place her alongside Holly on total points. WWE’s feature credits her with three Women’s Championship reigns and a role in the division’s reactivation in 1993. Those are important historical details, but the ranking does not award points for impact separately from look, promos and wrestling.

8. Sherri Martel — 23/30
Martel’s microphone work and character presentation are the standouts here. Her score for wrestling is lower than several in-ring specialists on the list, reflecting the particular strengths emphasized by her WWE persona and work rather than a claim that she lacked ability. Her tie with Holly and Blayze remains a tie because the framework supplies no official tiebreaker.
9. Wendi Richter — 22/30
Richter’s recognizable presentation and ability to connect with an audience earn solid marks, alongside capable ring work. She ranks below the tied 23-point group on the sum of the three categories. The gap should not be read as a measure of historical importance: a category scorecard cannot fully capture the cultural context or opportunities of an earlier era.
10. Mae Young — 21/30
Young makes the list on a balanced score, with WWE’s feature emphasizing her longevity. Longevity is not a fourth category, but it gives important context to the breadth of her career. The score reflects this article’s assessment of her presentation, promos and ring work within the distinct conditions of her era.

What the scores can—and cannot—tell you
This ranking makes the trade-offs in Hart’s scale visible: a wrestler can lead in one category without leading overall, and two wrestlers can reach the same total by different routes. It is useful as a way to discuss presentation, self-promotion and ring craft together. It is not an objective measurement, a universal all-time verdict or a ranking Hart is documented as having made.
Historical records such as WWE’s title counts and career notes help readers understand what each wrestler accomplished. They cannot erase the differences in how women were presented or the opportunities they received. The most defensible reading is therefore a transparent editorial comparison of a selected group—not a definitive order for every WWE women’s wrestler across every era.
