What Kato Kaelin said in his statement
Kaelin posted a video statement to X on Thursday, April 11, 2024, one day after Simpson died. ABC News quoted Kaelin expressing condolences to Simpson’s children and “love and compassion” to the Brown and Goldman families.
His tribute to Nicole Brown Simpson concluded: “And finally, to the family of the beautiful Nicole Brown Simpson, may we always cherish her memories. Nicole was a beacon of light that burned bright. May we never forget her.” ABC News reproduced the statement; the Associated Press also reported its message to Simpson’s children, Fred and Kim Goldman, and Nicole’s family.
Why the statement carries personal context
Kaelin was a houseguest on Simpson’s property around the time of the murders and later testified in the criminal trial. That connection helps explain why his response was closely followed, but the statement itself was a message of condolence and remembrance—not a new allegation about the case.

Simpson was acquitted of the murder charges in the criminal trial. In a separate civil case, a jury found him liable for wrongful death in 1997 and ordered $33.5 million in damages for the Brown and Goldman families, as ABC News reported. The civil liability finding was not a criminal conviction.
Simpson died on April 10, 2024, aged 76. His family announced prostate cancer as the cause of death, according to the Associated Press.
