Is This Thing On? is a 2025 comedy-drama directed by Bradley Cooper, starring Will Arnett as Alex and Laura Dern as Tess, a couple facing divorce and difficult questions about family, identity and what their relationship might become. It is a feature film, not a documentary.
What is Is This Thing On? about?
As their marriage unravels, Alex confronts middle age and an impending divorce by looking for a new purpose in New York’s comedy scene. Tess, meanwhile, considers the sacrifices she made for their family. The film follows the pair as they navigate co-parenting, changing identities and the possibility that love can take a different form.
That spoiler-light premise comes from Searchlight Pictures’ official synopsis. It establishes the film’s central tensions without requiring more plot detail: personal reinvention for Alex, reassessment of family roles for Tess, and the challenge of adjusting a relationship as a couple separates.
Who is in the cast and who made the film?
Bradley Cooper directs. Searchlight credits the story to Will Arnett, Mark Chappell and John Bishop.
