Those May offers are historical examples—not verified Prime Day deals—and should not be treated as available now.
When was Amazon Prime Day 2024?
Amazon’s tenth Prime Day event ran July 16–17, 2024. Amazon said the event began July 16 at 12:01 a.m. PDT and gave Prime members access to millions of deals across more than 35 product categories. Its Prime Day announcement described a broad retail event, but did not provide a verified list of the individual book deals or prices readers might have seen.
Were the book deals announced for Prime Day?
No: the named book offers in Amazon’s 2024 announcements belonged to a separate six-day U.S. Amazon Book Sale, which ran May 15–20. Amazon said that sale was open to all customers, not just Prime members. It advertised discounts of up to 50% on print best sellers and up to 80% on Kindle Books. Those were maximum discounts for the May event, not evidence of Prime Day pricing or current availability. See Amazon’s Amazon Book Sale announcement for the event details.
| Event | Dates | Who could shop | Book-deal evidence |
|---|---|---|---|
| Amazon Book Sale | May 15–20, 2024 | All Amazon customers | Amazon advertised up to 50% off print best sellers and up to 80% off Kindle Books for this event. |
| Prime Day | July 16–17, 2024 | Prime members had access to the event’s deals | The cited announcement establishes the event dates and broad deal access, but not a verified inventory of individual book deals. |
What book offers did Amazon list in May?
Amazon’s May sale announcement described offers spanning books trending on BookTok, book-club selections, books adapted for screen, classics, children’s graphic novels, and recommendations from Amazon Books editors. Among the early offers it named were:
#1 Best Overall
- 70% off a Sarah J. Maas Kindle starter bundle.
- 75% off Alexis Hall’s A Lady for a Duke.
- 57% off Rebecca Serle’s Expiration Dates.
- 29% off select Kindle Scribe devices.
All four figures refer to early offers in the May 2024 Amazon Book Sale announcement, not verified Prime Day discounts. Amazon also advertised three months of Kindle Unlimited for $0 and a May First Reads offer in that announcement; neither should be read as a subscription offer available today.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How do Prime Reading, First Reads, and Kindle Unlimited differ from sale discounts?
These are reading benefits or services, not the same thing as reduced prices on books. Amazon described Prime Reading and Amazon First Reads as Prime benefits, while Kindle Unlimited could be subscribed to without Prime. The May announcement’s specific Kindle Unlimited and First Reads promotions were tied to that sale period; they do not establish current terms. The distinctions and May offers appear in Amazon’s sale announcement.
