Si Lotlot: Kwento ng Kabutihan is a Filipino children’s story about a six-year-old girl who responds to mockery with kindness. When Lotlot’s classmate Aira laughs at her curly hair, Lotlot later helps Aira when other children pick on her. Their friendship gives the story its central lesson: treat people with care and do not judge them by their appearance.

What happens in the story?

Lotlot is introduced as friendly, helpful and active at school. She sweeps the room, wipes desks, waters plants, respects older people and helps others.

Her classmate Aira draws attention to Lotlot’s curly hair and laughs at her. Lotlot tells Aira not to laugh at another person. Days later, Lotlot sees other children picking on Aira. She steps in and helps Aira stand.

Aira thanks Lotlot and recognizes that she was wrong to judge her. Lotlot tells her, “sa susunod huwag mong huhusgahan ang tao sa kanyang hitsura” (“next time, don’t judge a person by their appearance”), as dialogue spoken by Lotlot in the story. The two become close friends.

What is the story’s lesson?

The story connects kindness with looking beyond outward appearance. Lotlot’s response is not to return Aira’s ridicule: she sets a boundary, then helps Aira when she is in trouble. Aira’s change of heart follows that act of care, making the lesson part of the plot rather than only a closing statement.
