How Charli XCX’s entrance unfolded
The set was staged like a barn. As Role Model reached the song’s “Sally” passage, he called, “Where’s my Sally tonight?” The doors opened to reveal Charli XCX, who danced before placing her sunglasses on him, blowing a kiss, and leaving the stage, according to ABC Audio’s October 12, 2025 report.

The relevant lyric passage begins, “Here we go again/ I’m falling headfirst/ Ankles hit the two-step/ Sally makes my head hurt.” The barn doors and the call for Sally turned the entrance into a staged reveal rather than an unexplained interruption.
Why Charli was the song’s “Sally”
ABC Audio describes a recurring performance convention for “Sally, When the Wine Runs Out”: a woman joins Role Model onstage and dances during that section of the song. In some performances the guest has been a fan; in others, a famous woman. Charli’s SNL appearance extended that established bit with a high-profile guest and a barn-door reveal.

Charli wore sunglasses, a miniskirt, and a shirt bearing the Max’s Kansas City logo. The report describes what she wore and did, but it does not establish that the shirt was intended as a message or explain a motive for either performer.
Which SNL episode was it?
Amy Poehler hosted the October 11, 2025 episode, and Role Model was the musical guest, making it his SNL debut in that role. Role Model is the stage name of Tucker Pillsbury. Peacock’s Season 51 guide lists the episode on the date marking the 50th anniversary of the first SNL episode; the Associated Press had also identified Poehler and Role Model in its September 18, 2025 preview.
Peacock’s guide says “Sally, When the Wine Runs Out” had topped Billboard’s Adult Alternative Airplay chart, describing it as Role Model’s first Billboard No. 1 song. The guide passage gives no chart date, so that is an attributed milestone rather than a claim about the song’s current ranking.
