What happened onstage?
The ceremony recreated the show’s Boston bar onstage. Danson, Grammer, Perlman, and Ratzenberger began the scene; Wendt then made a surprise entrance carrying the award envelope, according to The Boston Globe’s January 15, 2024 account.
The five presented the awards for comedy directing and comedy writing. TV Insider reported that both went to The Bear creator Christopher Storer, who was absent and had his awards accepted on his behalf.

Why was it called a “long-overdue class reunion”?
Ratzenberger delivered the joke to Danson: “Ted, why don’t you think of it as a long overdue class reunion.” Grammer also reflected on the cast’s history, saying, “Being together brings back some great memories of a show we’re all very proud of.” Both lines were reported by The Boston Globe.
Host Anthony Anderson introduced Cheers as “one of the greatest sitcoms of all time”; that was Anderson’s praise, not an official ranking. Danson thanked Anderson for bringing the cast together and said it felt nice to be there in front of the audience, as reported by the Globe.

Why are these called the 2023 Emmys?
The reunion happened at the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards ceremony on January 15, 2024. “2023 Emmys” refers to the television awards cycle being honored, not the calendar year in which the ceremony took place. Both TV Insider and The Boston Globe reported on the event that day.
