Prince William and Kate, the Prince and Princess of Wales, spent their 14th wedding anniversary, 29 April 2025, on the Isle of Mull. Their two-day official visit also included Iona, with engagements focused on island community life, local food and farming, outdoor learning and conservation. In Scotland, the couple are styled the Duke and Duchess of Rothesay.

Where and when the anniversary visit took place

The anniversary fell on Tuesday, 29 April 2025. The couple marked it in Tobermory, Mull, during the first day of an official visit that continued on 30 April and included both Mull and Iona. The Royal Family described the visit as an opportunity to connect with rural island communities and highlight social connection and care for nature. The Royal Family’s account was published on 30 April.

ITV reported that it was the couple’s first joint official visit to the Inner Hebrides. ITV also reported that they stayed in a self-catered cottage on Mull, and that they first met while studying at the University of St Andrews. Those details are from ITV’s contemporaneous coverage, not the Royal Family’s itinerary. Read ITV’s report.

What William and Kate did on Mull

Aros Hall and Tobermory’s artisan market

Their first-day itinerary began in Tobermory at Aros Hall and an artisan market. Aros Hall is a local gathering place that hosts a weekly producers’ market, sewing club, lunch club, toddler group and the island’s only soft play area, according to the Royal Family’s 2025 account. The same account said its Community Fridge diverted over 60 tonnes of food from landfill in the preceding year.

Croft 3: farming, food and local produce

At Croft 3, a working croft and restaurant, the couple toured part of the property, whose land extends to 50 acres, saw Hebridean sheep and helped choose garden produce for the day’s menu. The visit connected food served locally with the farming and land stewardship that are part of island life.

The second day: forest learning and the ferry to Iona

On 30 April, the couple met the Mull and Iona Ranger Service at Ardura Community Forest and joined an outdoor learning group. Their final public engagement was a public ferry crossing to Iona, where they met ferry operators and island residents. The itinerary brought together conservation work, learning outside and the transport link on which residents and visitors rely.

Community and conservation support announced during the visit

The Royal Foundation of The Prince and Princess of Wales announced a partnership to support and develop two community spaces on Mull and to support the Mull and Iona Ranger Service. ITV identified the two halls receiving grants for redesign and renovation as Aros Hall in Tobermory and Pennyghael Community Hall in the south of Mull. The Foundation’s announcement connected the visit’s public engagements to support for community facilities and local ranger work.

Island context and figures reported in 2025

The Royal Family’s 30 April 2025 account described Mull as Scotland’s fourth-largest island, with an economy that includes tourism, farming and fishing. It gave approximate figures of around 3,000 residents on Mull and around 170 on Iona, and said Iona receives around 130,000 visitors a year. These are figures published in that 2025 account, not verified current counts.
