Mia Farrow posted a statement on March 31, 2021, addressing online rumors about the deaths of three of her children: Tam Farrow, Lark Previn, and Thaddeus Farrow. Her post came amid renewed attention to the family following HBO’s limited series Allen v. Farrow. The Los Angeles Times reported that the series did not address the deaths.

What Mia Farrow said in her statement

Farrow framed her post as a tribute to her children and to families who have lost a child. She asked readers not to speculate further, writing: “These are unspeakable tragedies. Any other speculation about their deaths is to dishonor their lives and the lives of their children and loved ones.” The sentence was reproduced by the Los Angeles Times and Entertainment Tonight.

She also wrote, in TheWrap’s reproduction of her statement: “Few families are perfect, and any parent who has suffered the loss of child knows that pain is merciless and ceaseless.”

What Farrow said about each death

The accounts below are attributed to the people who made them. Moses Farrow, Mia Farrow’s son, publicly disputed aspects of the accounts of Tam and Lark in a 2018 blog post, as contemporaneous news reports summarized it. Those reports do not establish a definitive resolution of the competing family accounts.

Tam Farrow Farrow said Tam died at 17 in 2000 from an accidental prescription overdose related to severe migraines and a heart ailment. Moses Farrow disputed the accidental-overdose characterization in a 2018 blog post, according to the Los Angeles Times and TheWrap.
Lark Previn Farrow said Lark died at 35 in 2008 from complications of HIV/AIDS, which Farrow said Lark contracted from a previous partner. She described Lark as a daughter, partner, and mother. Moses Farrow’s account, as summarized by the Los Angeles Times and TheWrap, differed in its description of Lark’s circumstances.
Thaddeus Farrow Farrow said Thaddeus was 29 and living with his partner when their relationship abruptly ended, after which he died by suicide. TheWrap reported Moses Farrow’s account that Thaddeus had told him about Tam’s death.

The figures for ages, dates, and circumstances in this table reflect statements and contemporaneous reporting, not an independent determination of cause or circumstances.

Why the statement drew attention in 2021

Farrow’s post appeared as Allen v. Farrow renewed public discussion of her family. The Los Angeles Times noted that the HBO series did not cover the deaths. E! News and TheWrap reported that Farrow posted her statement on March 31, 2021; the Los Angeles Times and Entertainment Tonight published coverage on April 1.

The Los Angeles Times reported at the time that Farrow had 14 children and described her as mother to 16 grandchildren. These are biographical figures in that contemporaneous coverage.

What is—and is not—established by the public accounts

The contemporaneous reports document what Farrow said in 2021 and how Moses Farrow’s earlier account differed on parts of the story. They do not settle those disagreements. The claims about Tam’s and Lark’s circumstances should therefore remain attributed rather than presented as independently verified findings. Farrow’s central request was that people not use speculation to overshadow her children’s lives or the grief of their loved ones.
