Why did they postpone their wedding?
The couple had planned to marry in 2020, but postponed during the pandemic. In March 2020, Govan told BET that the decision was based on CDC advice and the circumstances at the time. She also said the couple considered the risk to older relatives and the travel required of family and guests, and did not want to put anyone at risk. BET reported her explanation.
Govan later told PEOPLE that they had eagerly begun planning after their 2018 engagement, but, like many couples, had to cancel their original celebration. The July 2021 event was the postponed wedding, not a separate ceremony reported as having taken place in 2020.

A ceremony focused on family
Govan’s brother Eric officiated the mountaintop ceremony beneath a floral arch. The guest list was limited to people closest to the couple. Govan told PEOPLE, “For Derek and me, our wedding has been about unity and a blending of families.” She said sharing the moment with loved ones mattered more than eloping or simply completing the paperwork.
Govan also described the relationship as one shaped by growth: “For both of us, this is our second marriage. The most exciting part about this time around is all the growth we bring to the relationship.” Those remarks framed the celebration in the couple’s own terms—as a family occasion as well as a wedding.

Gloria Govan’s dress and the reported wedding suppliers
PEOPLE reported that Govan wore a Monique Lhuillier gown with lace panels and beading around the waist. Karla Daniels styled her up-do, and David Rodriguez did her makeup. The bridesmaids wore Dessy Collection dresses, while the groomsmen wore suits by Octavius Perry.
The event’s reported credits included Kelly Patrice for planning and design; Premiere Party Rentals, Papillon Rentals, and Casa de Perrin for specialty rentals and lighting; Lilla Bello for florals; and Wesley Sloan Designs for custom invitations. Rob Pausmith of Trés LA Group provided the food, Susie Cakes made the cake, and I Do Coffee supplied a coffee bar. DJ Malski handled reception music, Jenny Quicksall photographed the evening, Miguel Garcia Studios provided video, and MirMir supplied a photo booth. The reception, first dance, and honeymoon plan
The reception featured four signature cocktails inspired by the blended Fisher-Govan family. The couple’s first dance was to “For Real” by Amel Larrieux. Their wedding coverage said they planned a honeymoon in Thailand for October 2021, but the reporting cited here does not confirm whether that trip took place.
