How did Gumbel and Quinlan know each other?
A Washington Post profile published in October 1999 described Quinlan as a brokerage executive and said she and Gumbel exchanged letters for a year before they began dating. The profile also noted that they lived together and that Gumbel took her to events, including his charity golf tournament.
