Before the live rounds, nine audition Golden Buzzer acts were listed in the weekly lineup—but an audition buzzer was not the same as a live-show Golden Buzzer.
When did the 2025 live shows begin?
Season 20’s live shows began Tuesday, August 19, 2025, at 8 p.m. ET/PT on NBC. The announced schedule ran for four weeks of quarterfinals, with 11 acts performing each Tuesday and a one-hour results show on Wednesday. The first results show aired August 20, and the finale was scheduled for September 24, according to Peacock’s August 6, 2025 preview.
How did the live-show Golden Buzzer and voting work?
There were 44 acts in the live-show field. During each quarterfinal, the judges’ live Golden Buzzer sent one act directly to the finals. The other 10 acts competed for audience votes, and the three highest-vote acts advanced to the semifinals. The announced format then had 12 semifinalists; six would advance by vote, alongside the four quarterfinal live Golden Buzzer recipients in the finalist field. This live-show buzzer was a separate route from earning a Golden Buzzer during an audition.
Which audition Golden Buzzer acts were in each live-show week?
These were audition Golden Buzzer recipients listed in the live lineup, not a list of the later live-show buzzer winners. TV Insider’s schedule report identified the following acts and placements:

| Live week | Audition Golden Buzzer acts | Act type | Advancement route |
|---|---|---|---|
| Week 1 — August 19 | LightWire (Simon Cowell); Charity Lockhart (Mel B); Jourdan Blue (Howie Mandel) | LightWire: dance/visual performance; Charity Lockhart and Jourdan Blue: singers | Audition buzzer recipients entered the live competition; the listed status does not establish how either act advanced from the quarterfinal. |
| Week 2 — August 26 | Duo Stardust (Sofía Vergara); Unreal (Howie Mandel) | Duo Stardust: dance duo; Unreal: dance group | Audition buzzer recipients entered the live competition; quarterfinal advancement depended on audience votes or the live-show buzzer. |
| Week 3 — September 2 | Messoudi Brothers (Mel B); Jessica Sanchez (Sofía Vergara) | Messoudi Brothers: acrobatic performance; Jessica Sanchez: singer | Audition buzzer recipients entered the live competition; quarterfinal advancement depended on audience votes or the live-show buzzer. |
| Week 4 — September 9 | Birmingham Youth Choir (Simon Cowell); The BoykinZ (Terry Crews) | Choir; vocal group | Audition buzzer recipients entered the live competition; quarterfinal advancement depended on audience votes or the live-show buzzer. |
The source establishes the acts’ audition buzzer status and weekly placement, but not which of them later received a live-show buzzer. It would therefore be misleading to treat every name above as a guaranteed finalist or to assign a live advancement route without a result for that act.
Which Golden Buzzer act ultimately won?
Hindsight settled the “could win it all?” question: Jessica Sanchez won Season 20 and its $1 million prize. The TV Insider September 24 finale recap also reported that Jourdan Blue placed third and LightWire fifth; Leo High School Choir finished fourth. Reflecting on the choir, Simon Cowell said, “You are gonna inspire so many people, and I really mean that. And I’m so proud of what you’ve achieved.”

What to take from the contender list
An audition Golden Buzzer signaled that a judge had sent an act forward, but it did not guarantee a place in the final or the win. The weekly list shows who entered the live shows with that audition distinction; the format gave those acts and the rest of the field different ways to advance through audience voting and the separate live-show buzzer.
