Do you need to read Wool before watching?
No. Apple identifies Silo as based on Hugh Howey’s Wool trilogy, but does not say that reading the books is necessary to watch the episode. Wool is an optional way to explore the source material; the available information does not establish that “The Engineer” adapts a particular chapter or that the book and episode contain identical events.
