In April 2023, The Young and the Restless star Eric Braeden said doctors had found cancer after he sought care for urinary problems. He described prostate-related symptoms, a procedure to relieve pressure, removal of cancer, and a biopsy that found high-grade cancerous cells near the bladder. His later updates included a clear cystoscopy in August 2023 and a 2024 description of his diagnosis as “on hold.” Those are historical updates; available reporting does not establish his cancer status as of October 4, 2026.
What Eric Braeden said about his diagnosis
In a Facebook video reported by CBS News on April 23, 2023, Braeden, then 82, said he had sought medical care after experiencing urinary problems while recovering from knee-replacement surgery. Doctors found cancer during care that also addressed pressure on his urinary tract.
The diagnosis language matters. Braeden described prostate-related symptoms, but CBS News reported high-grade cancerous cells near the bladder. The Los Angeles Times’ April 24, 2023 account also described prostate symptoms and high-grade cells. These reports do not support turning his symptoms into an unqualified diagnosis of prostate cancer.
What treatment he described in 2023
Braeden said doctors removed cancer while performing a UroLift procedure intended to relieve pressure on the urethra. A subsequent biopsy showed high-grade cancerous cells near the bladder. When he recorded his announcement, he said he had received the second of six planned immunotherapy treatments, according to CBS News. These details describe the treatment sequence he reported in 2023, not a current regimen.

The Los Angeles Times reported that Braeden had started immunotherapy and experienced flu-like symptoms. In his announcement, he said, “It can work out,” as quoted by the newspaper.
His later updates
August 2023: cystoscopy found no cancer
In an August 2023 update to fans, Braeden said a cystoscopy found no cancer and that he still expected three prophylactic BCG infusions, according to Parade.

November 2023: he said he was doing well
A November 10, 2023 interview on The Talk reported that Braeden said he was doing well and urged men his age to get examined early.
2024: diagnosis described as “on hold”
In a 2024 interview with Entertainment Tonight, Braeden said, “My cancer diagnosis right now is on hold, as it were,” and thanked his doctors and modern cancer treatment. That comment is a dated update, not confirmation of his status today.

What is—and is not—known about his current status
The August 2023 cystoscopy and Braeden’s 2024 comment provide updates from those dates, but neither establishes his condition in October 2026. Reports that he returned to work after pneumonia in March 2026 and discussed an Emmy nomination in July 2026 do not provide a cancer-status update (Soap Opera Digest, March 2026; Soap Opera Digest, July 2026). It would be inaccurate to infer from those unrelated reports that his cancer is active, cured, or in remission.

Braeden said he wanted his experience to be useful to older men. In the announcement video, as quoted by CBS News, he said: “I hate to be this personal, but I think this may be good for some older guys who may or may not listen to this.”
