Spoiler warning: The trailer clues prompted fan theories, not a confirmed reveal. Now that Scream 7 is out, the reported Ghostface killers are Jessica, Karl, and Marco—but the film leaves some individual attack assignments uncertain.
What did fans think the trailer revealed?
Two moments drew particular attention before the film’s release: McKenna Grace’s character wearing a blue plaid skirt, and the voice heard at the end of the trailer. Neither was proof of who was behind the mask.
The blue plaid skirt theory
Viewers noticed that Grace’s character wears a blue plaid skirt and compared its pattern to clothing associated with earlier killers. GamesRadar+ reported the theory while cautioning that it could be an over-reading of a costume detail: the Scream films routinely use red herrings and misdirection. The outfit was a fan-noticed clue, not an official confirmation that Grace’s character was Ghostface. GamesRadar+ on the plaid-skirt theory.
The voice that sounded like Matthew Lillard
ABC News reported that some fans thought the trailer’s final voice sounded like Matthew Lillard, who played Stu Macher in the original Scream. The trailer closes with the line, “This is gonna be fun.” A perceived resemblance led to speculation about Stu, but it did not establish that Lillard voiced the caller or that Stu was the killer. The trailer also features a call to Sidney with the line, “Hello, Sidney. Did you miss me?” ABC News’ trailer report.

Who are the Ghostface killers in Scream 7?
Spoilers for the released film: GamesRadar+ reports that Jessica, Karl, and Marco are the Ghostface killers. That is the answer supplied by the film’s ending—not something the trailer confirmed in advance. GamesRadar+ on the ending and killer reveal.
Does the film identify who carried out every attack?
Not every attack can be confidently assigned to one killer from the available clues. GamesRadar+ notes that Marco’s bulletproof vest connects him to the attack at Tatum’s café. It also says Karl’s earlier death leaves Jessica as the likely killer of Lucas. Those clues help with particular attacks, but they do not amount to a fully settled, kill-by-kill account.

Anna Camp, who plays Jessica, said she was unsure which murders her character committed: “I’m going to leave that up to the audience.” Her comment concerns Jessica’s individual attack assignments, not doubt about the film’s final identification of the three killers. GamesRadar+ quoting Anna Camp.
