On August 20, 2024, Lil Jon appeared during Georgia’s ceremonial roll call at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago and performed “Turn Down for What,” his collaboration with DJ Snake. Georgia Public Broadcasting also reports that he performed “Get Low.”
What happened during Georgia’s roll call?
The moment took place on the second night of the 2024 Democratic National Convention at Chicago’s United Center. The roll call’s purpose was to ceremonially record state and territory delegates’ support for Kamala Harris; Georgia’s turn included Lil Jon’s surprise appearance. The Democratic National Convention’s recap characterized the proceedings as a celebratory roll call, while PBS NewsHour’s event video identifies the Chicago setting and date.
What did Lil Jon perform?
“Turn Down for What,” his song with DJ Snake, was the featured track associated with his appearance. PBS NewsHour and the DNC recap describe the performance in that context. Georgia Public Broadcasting’s account also reports “Get Low” as part of the appearance, so the two tracks should not be conflated: “Turn Down for What” is the central moment, while “Get Low” is an additional song reported by that outlet.
PBS NewsHour’s report places the performance within a larger musical format: DJ Cassidy played selections associated with states as delegates announced their votes. The music turned a normally procedural convention segment into a party-like presentation without changing its function.

Why did Lil Jon perform at the DNC?
His appearance was part of Georgia’s turn in the roll call, which gave delegations a celebratory setting to announce their support for Harris. The performance was a way to stage that announcement with music and crowd energy; it did not determine or alter the delegate result.
TIME’s account reports that Lil Jon led the crowd in the chant “We’re not going back,” a message associated with the Harris campaign. That chant added a campaign note to a moment whose formal purpose remained the roll call.

How the roll call became a dance party
Rather than treating each state’s announcement as a quiet procedural formality, the program paired delegate announcements with state-associated music. The DNC described the event as a celebratory roll call, and PBS NewsHour reported on its dance-party format, which included celebrities and songs. Lil Jon’s high-energy appearance became one of the most conspicuous moments in that broader presentation—not the entirety of the convention or the only musical element.
