Jay Leno said he fell down a steep hill while walking to a restaurant before a Pittsburgh-area performance in November 2024. He reported a broken wrist, a lost fingernail and facial bruising; an interview at the time showed his eye swollen shut. He went on to perform that night, according to contemporaneous reports.
How did Jay Leno get injured?
Leno said he took a shortcut while heading to dinner and fell down a steep hill, striking rocks as he tumbled. In an interview published by Inside Edition on November 22, 2024, he described the fall as about 60 feet. That distance was his estimate, not an independently measured figure.
The Los Angeles Times reported on November 19, 2024 that the fall happened hours before Leno’s scheduled Friday show in Pittsburgh. The reports establish the circumstances broadly, but not the exact time or location of the fall.
What injuries did he report?
Leno told Inside Edition, “Broke my wrist. Lost my nail on the finger. I am all black and blue from 60 feet of hitting rocks.” The release also said his eye was “currently swollen shut” at the time of the interview. The Los Angeles Times likewise reported a broken wrist and bruising.

Did Jay Leno perform after the fall?
Yes. Both Inside Edition and the Los Angeles Times reported that Leno continued with his scheduled performance after the fall. The Times also reported that he later performed in California.

What was reported about medical care?
Inside Edition’s November 22 release said Leno had not yet seen a doctor when interviewed and planned to do so. The Los Angeles Times subsequently reported that he was treated after returning to Los Angeles. These reports describe the immediate aftermath; they do not establish his current condition or provide a later recovery update.

The Inside Edition interview linked the eye patch to the fall and reported that Leno’s eye was swollen shut at the time. The available contemporaneous reports do not identify a specific eye diagnosis.
