An unnamed escaped patient is unmasked early; the final killers are hospital orderly Marco (Ethan Embry) and Sidney Prescott’s neighbor Jessica Bowden (Anna Camp). Jessica wants to kill Sidney and her husband, Mark, and raise Sidney’s daughter Tatum. Sidney and Tatum stop the final pair, but the ending does not establish that the Scream franchise is over.
Who is Ghostface in Scream 7?
The film’s killer reveals come in two stages. The first Ghostface is an unnamed escaped patient, unmasked after an attack at Sidney’s home. The endgame later identifies two more killers: Marco, an orderly at the institution, and Jessica, Sidney’s next-door neighbor. The identities are reported in TheWrap’s February 27, 2026 ending explainer; Paramount’s official film page establishes the broad premise, not the spoiler details.
The early attacker
The escaped patient attacks Sidney’s home and is revealed before the final confrontation. Later, Sidney and reporter Gale Weathers visit the institution and hear about a John Doe who resembles Stu Macher. That resemblance is not proof that Stu survived the first film: the Stu imagery is fabricated, deepfake-like material used in the new attacks.
The final pair
Marco and Jessica are the killers behind the endgame. Jessica says she once regarded Sidney as a mentor. Sidney’s book helped Jessica see a way out of an abusive marriage; Jessica says she ended that marriage by killing her husband. She also resents Sidney’s absence during the New York killings in Scream VI. Her stated plan is to kill Sidney and Mark and take Tatum for herself. TheWrap’s account supports Jessica’s stated motive; it does not establish a similarly developed motive for the unnamed early attacker.

What happens in the ending?
The story moves to Pine Grove, Indiana, where Sidney has built a life with her family. The new attacks turn that life into the target: Ghostface threatens her daughter, Tatum, forcing Sidney to confront the past as a present danger. Paramount’s synopsis describes Sidney as determined to protect her family and face the horrors of her past.
In the final confrontation, Sidney shoots Marco. Jessica escapes with Tatum into an unfinished garage. Sidney and Tatum shoot Jessica, then shoot her in the head, following the film’s recurring rule that a Ghostface killer may need a head shot to be definitively stopped. The family’s immediate danger is resolved. Nothing in that resolution confirms the franchise itself has ended.

Why are past characters appearing in deepfake videos?
The film uses deepfake-like screen appearances of familiar figures, including Stu, Nancy Loomis, Roman Bridger and Dewey Riley. In the story, the fabricated images are a means of intimidation, not evidence that those characters have returned. TheWrap describes AI-generated images as part of the film’s technology angle, while the Associated Press review also characterizes the film as embracing deepfake videos and engaging with the franchise’s history.
That device invites a reading in which nostalgia itself becomes part of the threat: Sidney’s past is replayed and manipulated to unsettle her. This is an interpretation of the film’s effect, not a confirmed statement of the filmmakers’ intent.

Where and when can you watch Scream 7?
Paramount announced that the film would arrive on Paramount+ in the United States and Canada on May 28, 2026. The announcement is a dated regional availability notice, not a guarantee that the title remains in every catalog today. Check the current Paramount+ listing for your region. Paramount’s movie page lists DVD and Blu-ray alongside digital and streaming formats.

Kevin Williamson directed Scream 7. Paramount’s film page lists James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick in the story and screenplay credits; Paramount Press Express gives the division as screenplay by Williamson and Busick, story by Vanderbilt and Busick. The AP review reports an R rating for strong bloody violence, gore and language, and a runtime of 114 minutes.

At a Directors Guild of America Q&A in Los Angeles on March 8, 2026, Williamson discussed learning filmmaking mechanics from original Scream director Wes Craven. Williamson said: “I learned the entire mechanics of filmmaking. I got to watch him interact with the actors, and his AD, and his cinematographer – the nuts and bolts of filmmaking… He put my head in another place that it never was before. He made me think and push myself and sort of opened my eyes to another kind of storytelling, that everything is storytelling. Every decision, every choice, every moment is part of it. There’s just never enough time.” The DGA account records the remarks.
