After Donald Trump won the 2024 presidential election, celebrities responded in different ways: some expressed anger or sadness, others warned about consequences for rights, and some offered comfort or voiced pride in Kamala Harris. The reactions were not uniform. Harris conceded on November 6, 2024, the day The Guardian published its roundup of celebrity responses.
What celebrities said after Trump’s win
The Guardian’s November 6, 2024, roundup, written by Benjamin Lee, described reactions shared on social media after the result became clear. The publication later modified the article in September 2025. The posts and stories it cited may no longer be available, so the quotations below are attributed to The Guardian’s reporting rather than presented as independently verified current posts.
Anger and sadness
Rapper Cardi B, who had appeared at a Harris rally in Milwaukee, voiced grief and anger. The Guardian reported that she said during an Instagram live, “I’m really sad. I swear to God I’m really sad.” It also reported that she captioned an Instagram video, “I hate y’all bad.” Her remarks were one especially vivid response, not a measure of how celebrities as a group felt.
Author Stephen King shared a comparison between democracy and fragile merchandise: “There’s a sign you can see in many shops that sell beautiful but fragile items: LOVELY TO LOOK AT, DELIGHTFUL TO HOLD, BUT ONCE YOU BREAK IT, THEN IT’S SOLD. You can say the same about democracy.” The Guardian reported the statement as a social-media post.

Concern about rights and political consequences
Actor Jamie Lee Curtis framed her response as a call to keep organizing. In an Instagram post reported by The Guardian, she wrote: “But what it really means is that we wake up and fight. Fight for women and our children and their futures and fight against tyranny, one day at a time. One fight at a time. One protest at a time. That’s what it means to be an American.”
Actor Christina Applegate described her child’s distress and concern about women’s rights. The Guardian reported that Applegate wrote, “My child is sobbing because her rights as a woman may be taken away.” She added, “Why? And if you disagree, please unfollow me.”

Harris’s concession was a separate part of the response
Celebrity posts followed the election, but they were distinct from Harris’s official concession. In her November 6 speech, the vice president and Democratic nominee said, “A fundamental principle of American democracy is that when we lose an election, we accept the results.” She also said, “while I concede this election, I do not concede the fight that fueled this campaign.” CBS News quoted both statements in its contemporaneous coverage. Harris characterized her campaign as lasting 107 days.
Celebrity appearances during the campaign
Celebrity participation had been visible before Election Day. The Associated Press reported on November 5, 2024, that Oprah Winfrey, Lady Gaga and Jon Bon Jovi appeared at Harris campaign events the night before the vote. It also described Pennsylvania events involving Katy Perry, Andra Day, Fat Joe and Ricky Martin. Those appearances provide campaign context; they do not establish that celebrity endorsements changed votes or explain the election result.

Those figures were CBS’s contemporaneous projections at publication, not the final certified tally.
