If Astra says a stream is online while YouTube shows it offline, the two status messages may be describing different things. “Online” in an encoder or service does not confirm that YouTube is receiving a healthy feed for the correct stream or that a scheduled broadcast has been started. First check the selected YouTube event and its stream URL and key, then see whether the Live Control Room shows a preview.
“Astra Streaming” does not identify one clearly established product in this context. The steps below follow YouTube’s official encoder-streaming guidance without assuming how a particular Astra app or service works.
What “online” and “offline” can mean
YouTube describes an encoder as the app, program, or tool used to capture and compress a live stream. An encoder or service can report that it is connected on its side, but that alone does not establish that YouTube is receiving usable audio and video for the intended event. For a scheduled broadcast, an incoming feed and preview are also distinct from the public event being live: YouTube’s setup instructions say to wait for the preview and then select Go live.
The name Astra is ambiguous. DataStax Astra Streaming is a serverless event-streaming service powered by Apache Pulsar, while Astra Streaming Studio is a separate Android video-streaming app. The available product descriptions do not establish that either is the Astra product involved in this YouTube status mismatch, or explain an Astra-specific fix. Identify the app or service, its version, and how it sends video before attributing the cause to Astra.

Check the YouTube event, URL, and stream key first
- Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. Select the exact scheduled broadcast or instant stream you intend to use. Make sure you are not looking at a different event.
- Compare the encoder’s destination and key with that event. YouTube’s setup for encoder streaming uses a stream URL and stream key. Confirm that the URL and key entered in the encoder correspond to the selected event. A key is a credential: do not paste it into public chats, screenshots, or support posts.
- If the encoder reports a startup error, reset and update the key. YouTube’s troubleshooting guidance recommends getting a new stream key in Live Control Room and updating the encoder when a third-party encoder has a startup error. Treat the old key as exposed if it has been shared publicly.
- For a scheduled broadcast, wait for the YouTube preview. Once the preview appears, select Go live in Live Control Room when you are ready to begin the public event. An incoming feed does not by itself mean the scheduled event has started.
YouTube explains that stream keys tell the encoder where to send the feed and allow YouTube to accept it. A key mismatch is one configuration possibility to check; the status wording alone does not prove it is the cause.
If YouTube has no preview, inspect the encoder and connection
Check the encoder’s output and health
- Confirm that the encoder is sending audio and video, not merely showing a connected or online state.
- Read its exact status and error messages. Note whether it reports a connection or encoding problem.
- Check that you are using the latest version of the encoder. YouTube also advises reviewing encoder errors and CPU load.
- If the output is unhealthy, address the encoder issue or try another encoder to help isolate it.
Test the outbound connection
If the encoder’s audio and video appear healthy but YouTube still receives no preview, test outbound Internet connectivity from the sending setup. If the connection test indicates a problem, YouTube advises contacting the internet service provider. A speed test by itself cannot confirm that the correct YouTube event, URL, and key are configured.

Do not buy hardware before isolating the fault
The official YouTube troubleshooting and setup guidance centers on the selected event, stream key and configuration, encoder health, and outbound connection. The status mismatch alone is not evidence that a cable, capture card, router, or other device is faulty. Check for a specific hardware or network problem before replacing equipment.
