The available documentation describes recurring clock-based actions, but does not verify a built-in sunrise trigger—so plan to update fixed schedules as sunrise shifts, or confirm a solar-event integration with your provider before relying on it.
Choose the sunrise location and time
First decide which location’s sunrise should control the stream—for example, the place your channel serves or a specific city whose morning you want to mark. Sunrise changes by date and location, so a single fixed clock time will not track it all year.
- Choose a location and date. Use a sunrise table or calculator for the selected location. NOAA’s Global Monitoring Laboratory calculator can produce sunrise, sunset, and solar-noon tables: NOAA Solar Calculator.
- Verify local time and offset. NOAA says the calculator is no longer actively maintained and cautions that its timezone and daylight-saving assumptions may be inaccurate. Check the result against the location’s current local time and daylight-saving rules for the date.
- Record the scheduler’s timezone. Confirm whether its schedule uses the chosen location’s local time or another timezone, and account for any daylight-saving change.
Prepare the playlists and fallback
Create at least two playlists: one for overnight listening and another for morning bhajans. Check that the items are in the intended order and that each playlist has enough material for the period it is meant to cover.
Set fallback content for gaps in the schedule. The playout.video calendar guide describes a default fallback playlist, single video, or black slate; it also describes calendar blocks containing a video, playlist, or composition, configured to loop or play once. These are features documented for that scheduler, not guarantees about other services. See its calendar guide.

Schedule the switch without ending the stream
- Check playlist-switch support. Choose a scheduler whose documentation says it can replace the current playlist while the live stream continues. The playout.video guide documents one-time and recurring cron actions, and says that a scheduled playlist switch replaces the current playlist without interrupting the stream. This is vendor documentation, not an independent test. See Scheduling Streams and Automated Actions.
- Create the recurring action. Set the action to switch from the overnight playlist to the morning playlist at the verified sunrise time. Confirm the scheduler’s timezone and recurrence settings before saving.
- Account for the media boundary. The playout.video guide says a playlist switch occurs at the next video transition. If a video is still playing at sunrise, the morning playlist may therefore begin after sunrise rather than at its exact instant.
- Check what happens after the switch. Confirm the scheduler’s behavior when the new playlist ends, and make sure a scheduled gap cannot leave the stream without intended content. Use the configured fallback where available.
Keep a fixed-time schedule aligned with sunrise
A recurring clock or cron action is not the same as a sunrise event trigger. Neither the cited playout.video scheduler documentation nor its calendar guide says that the service calculates sunrise and fires an action from that solar event. Unless your provider confirms a native sunrise trigger, treat this as a manual or separately engineered workflow.
With a fixed-time scheduler, recalculate the local sunrise and adjust the scheduled action as the seasons change. Recheck after daylight-saving changes, and verify the timezone offset for the date in question. A schedule that remains set to one clock time will eventually drift away from sunrise.

Test before relying on the schedule
- Confirm that both playlists are selectable by the scheduled action.
- Verify the action’s recurrence, timezone, and next run time in the scheduler.
- Observe a switch during a live test, including whether it waits for the current video to finish.
- Check that the broadcast stays live and that fallback content behaves as expected.
- Review the next scheduled switch after changing the sunrise time or timezone assumptions.

Respect rights in devotional recordings
A bhajan being devotional does not by itself establish that a recording is cleared for livestreaming. Confirm that you have the necessary rights for each recording and its underlying composition, and check the platform’s applicable copyright rules before scheduling it.
