Hosting OBS on a cloud server can keep a YouTube broadcast independent of your home computer—but it will not, by itself, keep the broadcast running if OBS crashes on the server. To recover from that failure, you need application-level supervision that restarts OBS and a tested way for it to reconnect to the correct YouTube event. A cloud provider’s VM auto-restart setting covers a different failure layer.
What a cloud server does—and does not—protect against
If OBS runs on a cloud VM, your local computer can be shut down without stopping the encoder on that VM. But the cloud does not make the stream uninterruptible. The OBS process, VM, network path, YouTube ingest, credentials, and event state can each fail independently.
| Failure | What may address it | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| Your home computer or connection fails | Run the encoder and required media on the cloud VM, independently of the home machine. | That OBS on the VM will survive its own crash. |
| OBS exits or crashes on the VM | An application-level supervisor can be configured to restart the process and log or alert on failures. | That OBS will restore its scene, reconnect successfully, or continue the same YouTube event without interruption. |
| The VM is terminated under a provider condition | Google Cloud documents automatic restart behavior for standard VM instances terminated by Compute Engine. | That the OBS process restarts, its saved configuration loads, or YouTube resumes the event. |
| Connection to YouTube ingest fails | Check the current YouTube ingest settings; OBS recommends connection troubleshooting such as trying another server or reducing bitrate where appropriate. | That connection tuning will restart a crashed OBS process. |
Google Cloud’s documented automatic restart behavior is a host-level mechanism, not an OBS process supervisor. Read the provider’s standard VM automatic restart documentation in that limited context.
Set up OBS on a cloud VM for recovery
The exact VM setup depends on the provider, operating system, OBS build, media workload, and whether the stream uses CPU or GPU encoding. The official sources cited here do not specify an India-specific OBS recipe, recommended VM size, or universal recovery time. Treat unattended operation and recovery as deployment tasks to configure and test, not guarantees that come with a cloud VM.

- 【AMD Ryzen 7330U】 – The Efficiency-Tuned Powerhouse,AMD Ryzen 7330U (Zen 3, SMT, 4C/8T) in KAMRUI P2 mini PC crushes rivals: Intel i3-10110U (2C/4T, 2019) and N95 (4 efficiency cores, no HT, single-channel memory). Vs predecessor Ryzen 3 4300U (4C/4T): ~50% faster single-core, ~46% multi-core, 8MB L3 cache (vs 4MB). Beats both Intel chips hugely in multi-core, making heavy multitasking, coding, data work smooth at just 15W TDP. High-end power in a cool, efficient box.
- 【AMD Radeon Graphics】– Triple 4K Vision & Fluidity,The integrated Radeon Graphics (based on the modern Vega architecture with 6 CUs) is a visual beast, outclassing the iGPU offerings from both AMD's prior generation and Intel. The Intel UHD Graphics (i3-10110U/N95) struggles with single-channel memory and low execution units, crippling its gaming performance and barely handling basic 4K video without stuttering. While the older Radeon Vega 5 (4300U) was decent, our 7330U's Radeon Graphics (6 CUs) pushes the boundaries, delivering higher graphics clock speeds (up to 1.8GHz) and significantly better rendering capabilities. It can drive triple 4K@60Hz displays with zero lag, edit photos/videos.
- 【Generous Storage & Easy Expansion】The KAMRUI Pinova P2 mini desktop computers comes with 16GB LPDDR4X RAM (higher frequency, lower power) for buttery‑smooth multitasking, and a 256GB M.2 SSD for blazing fast boot‑up, quick file transfers, and no more long loading screens. It also features two storage expansion slots (1x M.2 2280 SATA/NVMe PCIe 3.0 slot + 1x M.2 2280 SATA slot), supporting up to 4TB total (not included). You’ll have all the space you need for projects, media, and important data.
- 【Triple 4K Display Output】The KAMRUI Pinova P2 mini desktop pc is equipped with HDMI 2.0 ×1 + DP 1.4 ×1 + USB 3.2 Gen2 Type‑C ×1 (with DP Alt Mode), enabling simultaneous triple 4K@60Hz output. Whether for home entertainment, remote work, or conference room presentations, it delivers an immersive visual experience. Two USB 3.2 Gen2 Type‑A ports (up to 10Gbps – 21x faster than USB 2.0) make data transfers and device expansion a breeze.
- 【USB 3.2 Gen2 Type‑C: 10Gbps & Versatile Connectivity】The USB 3.2 Gen2 Type‑C port on the KAMRUI P2 small pc supports 10Gbps data transfer speeds and can also output DisplayPort 1.4 video. Together with Gigabit LAN, Wi‑Fi, and Bluetooth, you get a fast, flexible, and productive connected environment – wired or wireless.
- Put the encoder and its dependencies on the VM. Store the videos, audio, scenes, and other assets it needs where the VM can access them. Configure the environment so OBS can run without an interactive desktop session if it must operate unattended.
- Prepare the YouTube event. In YouTube Live Control Room, select or create the intended stream and use its current stream key and ingest settings. YouTube describes stream keys as “like your YouTube stream’s password and address”: they tell the encoder where to send its feed and let YouTube accept it. Keep the key private, limit access, and update the encoder if you reset it. See YouTube’s live stream settings guidance.
- Use a supported ingest configuration. YouTube supports RTMPS, the secure extension of RTMP. Its HLS setup guidance also describes a backup server URL for backup ingestion. Use the values shown for your current setup in Live Control Room rather than relying on addresses copied from an old tutorial. A backup ingest address is not a replacement for a running encoder: it cannot restart OBS after a crash. See YouTube’s RTMPS setup page and HLS setup guidance.
- Add process supervision. Configure an application-level supervisor to detect an OBS process exit and apply a deliberate restart policy. Set restart limits, preserve logs, and arrange alerts. Decide how the process will recover the intended scene and stream configuration; do not assume a process restart automatically restores either.
- Run a full failure test. Use a scheduled or private test event. Stop or deliberately crash OBS, verify that the supervisor acts, watch whether the encoder reconnects, then check the event state and viewer playback in YouTube Studio. The cited platform documentation does not establish a universal reconnect deadline or guarantee continuity in the same event.
- Keep a human recovery route. Ensure an operator can access the scheduled event, current key, and Live Control Room if automation fails. If a key may have been exposed, reset it in YouTube and replace it in the encoder configuration.
Troubleshoot in failure-layer order
- Check YouTube first. In Live Control Room, see whether the event remains active and whether YouTube is receiving a feed. Confirm OBS uses the current key for that event.
- Check the OBS process on the VM. If it exited, bitrate changes and ingest-server troubleshooting cannot bring the process back. Check the supervisor, its logs, and whether the expected scene and stream configuration loaded.
- If OBS is running but cannot connect, investigate the connection. Follow the OBS connection troubleshooting guide; it includes trying another streaming server and reducing video bitrate as appropriate. These steps target connection problems, not process crashes.
- Check VM health separately. Confirm whether the provider restarted or terminated the instance. A VM restart does not prove OBS or the YouTube event recovered.
- Recheck ingest settings if the path is the issue. Use the current RTMPS or HLS configuration in YouTube’s setup guidance, including the backup-ingestion instructions where relevant.
What is specific to running this in India?
The official documentation cited here does not establish an India-specific OBS recovery recipe, a best VM size, or a complete monthly cost for continuous encoding. Google Cloud lists Mumbai (asia-south1) for its documented H.265 channel use case in the Live Stream API channel documentation. That does not show that every VM type or OBS workload is available or suitable there.
Before deploying, verify the provider’s current regional availability for the VM shape you need, sustained CPU or GPU performance, outbound bandwidth charges, and any YouTube channel or stream constraints that apply to your use case. Cloud hosting can remove dependence on your home computer, but the sources cited here do not quantify failure rates, recovery times, or a total India-specific cost comparison.
