The February 16, 2025, SNL50: The Anniversary Special featured five identified musical performances, from Paul Simon and Sabrina Carpenter’s opening duet to Paul McCartney’s Beatles finale. It was the three-hour Studio 8H broadcast on NBC and Peacock—not the separate SNL50: The Homecoming Concert, held two days earlier at Radio City Music Hall.
Performances in the February 16 special
The anniversary special aired from 8 to 11 p.m. ET on NBC and Peacock. NBCUniversal’s anniversary overview and Peacock’s programming guide identify the Studio 8H broadcast and distinguish it from the weekend’s other events.
| Placement | Performer(s) | Performance | Format or source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Opening | Paul Simon and Sabrina Carpenter | “Homeward Bound” | Duet of the Simon & Garfunkel song |
| During the show | Miley Cyrus and Brittany Howard | “Nothing Compares 2 U” | Cover of the song associated with Sinéad O’Connor; Howard played a guitar solo |
| During the show | Lil Wayne with the Roots | “Uproar,” “Lollipop,” “6 Foot 7 Foot,” “Mrs. Officer,” and “A Milli” | Five-song medley, backed by the Roots |
| During the show | Adam Sandler | Anniversary song | Guitar performance honoring SNL’s 50-year history; the detailed recap does not identify a title |
| Closing | Paul McCartney | “Golden Slumbers / Carry That Weight / The End” | Song cycle from the Beatles’ Abbey Road |
The lineup and performance details are reported in Pitchfork’s performance recap; the Associated Press also reports the opening duet and McCartney’s closing song cycle in its coverage of the special.
The opening duet revisited Simon’s SNL history
Simon introduced “Homeward Bound” by recalling that he had performed it on Saturday Night Live with George Harrison in 1976. Carpenter replied, “I was not born then,” and added, “and neither were my parents.” The exchange connected the anniversary show to an earlier moment in the program’s musical history.

NBCUniversal and Peacock also list Ladies & Gentlemen … 50 Years of SNL Music as related anniversary programming, not a segment of the special.
