These are distinct features with different agreements and eligibility rules. YouTube’s Supers revenue figure is not 70% of the viewer’s gross payment: its stated calculation deducts local sales tax and iOS App Store fees first. Gift figures describe YouTube’s published conversion and payment calculation, not how much viewers will spend or how much a channel will earn.
Check eligibility before planning a stream
Super Chat and Super Stickers
You must meet YouTube’s minimum fan-funding requirements, be in a location where the feature is available, and comply with applicable terms and policies. The broad fan-funding baseline includes being in the YouTube Partner Program (YPP), being at least 18, and residing in a location where the feature is offered. You must also accept the Commerce Product Module (CPM), or have the legacy Commerce Product Addendum that was previously available. YouTube directs creators to Studio to check whether the Supers card is available; do not assume that early-access YPP subscriber or viewing thresholds alone establish access to Supers. See YouTube’s Supers eligibility, availability, and policies and fan-funding requirements.
Gifts
Gifts require YPP membership, age 18 or older, a supported country or region, acceptance of YouTube’s Virtual Items Module (VI Module), and a verified AdSense account or another age-verification method accepted by Google. YouTube may prompt creators who have not completed AdSense identity verification when they try to enable Gifts. Check YouTube’s Gifts eligibility guidance in Studio and the Virtual Items Program Policies for current terms.
Streams and content that are excluded
- For Super Chat and Super Stickers, the stream or Premiere must be eligible and live chat or comments must be on. The feature is not available on age-restricted, unlisted, private, Made for Kids, or YouTube Giving fundraiser videos.
- For Gifts, the stream must be eligible and live chat and comments must be on. Gifts are unavailable on age-restricted, Made for Kids, unlisted, or private livestreams and on YouTube Giving fundraisers.
- Country availability is feature-specific: a country supported for Supers is not necessarily supported for Gifts. Check the current help pages and your Studio Earn area rather than relying on an old country list.
Supers require the CPM or qualifying legacy addendum; Gifts require the VI Module. Accepting one does not automatically enable the other or remove the separate stream, location, and content restrictions.

Turn on Super Chat and Super Stickers
- Sign in to YouTube Studio and open Earn.
- Open the Supers tab or card. It appears when the channel has access.
- Select Get started and complete the on-screen steps, including accepting the CPM if prompted.
- Switch on Super Chat, Super Stickers, or both.
- Before going live, verify that the planned stream is eligible and live chat is enabled. Once Supers are enabled for the channel, YouTube says they can appear automatically on eligible livestreams and Premieres.
YouTube also provides mobile setup through the Earn area and Supers card. If a third party administers your channel rights, YouTube advises checking with that party before enabling the feature. See YouTube’s setup steps for Supers.
Turn on Gifts
- Open YouTube Studio and select Earn.
- On desktop, open Supers & gifts; on mobile, open Gifts.
- Select Turn on gifts or Get Started, then follow the prompts to accept the VI Module.
- Confirm Gifts are available for your channel and check that the planned stream meets the eligibility and chat requirements.
To disable Gifts later, return to the Earn area and turn the feature off. YouTube says historical earnings remain reviewable in Analytics after Gifts are removed from eligible streams. See YouTube’s Gifts setup and reporting guidance.

What YouTube says creators receive
Supers: 70% after specified deductions
YouTube says creators receive 70% of Supers revenue confirmed by Google. It calculates that share after local sales tax and iOS App Store fees are deducted, and says it currently covers transaction costs, including credit-card fees. A separate partner earnings overview describes the CPM share as 70% of net revenue from channel memberships, Super Chat, Super Stickers, and Super Thanks. Check your own agreement in YouTube Studio under Settings > Agreements for the terms that apply to your account. See YouTube’s Supers revenue and reporting information and partner earnings guidance.
Gifts: Jewels convert to Rubies
YouTube’s Virtual Items policy states that every two Jewels redeemed for Gifts earn one Ruby, and that it pays $0.01 per Ruby. This is the platform’s stated calculation, not an estimate of viewer purchases or a forecast of channel income. The policy may change, so consult the current terms linked above.

Where revenue appears
For Supers, open YouTube Analytics and check Revenue or How you make money. Gifts have a separate Gifts revenue breakdown in Analytics. YouTube notes that Analytics revenue is estimated and can be adjusted; use finalized account statements and current Studio reporting for accounting rather than treating a live estimate as final. YouTube’s partner guidance does not guarantee that a creator will earn or be paid a particular amount.
Make the features understandable to viewers
YouTube recommends acknowledging contributions in real time, thanking viewers, reading and responding to chat, encouraging conversation, setting a community goal, explaining that Supers are enabled, and considering Q&A or audience-submitted challenges. These are platform suggestions, not a promise that any tactic will increase revenue.

Keep the exchange clear: explain what a feature does without implying that a paid message buys a response, special treatment, or a guaranteed outcome unless you are prepared to honor that commitment and it is consistent with YouTube’s rules. Keep ordinary chat welcoming for viewers who do not pay.

Policies, moderation, and legal considerations
YouTube says Super Chat, Super Stickers, and Virtual Items are not crowdfunding, donation, or tipping tools. Creators remain responsible for applicable legal obligations, and tax treatment depends on location and circumstances; consult local authorities or a qualified professional for advice about your situation. Super Chat and Super Sticker messages remain subject to YouTube policies and Community Guidelines. YouTube says that when a Super is moderated and removed for a policy violation, its portion of the revenue is donated to charity.
