To repeat a Hindi video as a YouTube Live stream, FFmpeg can loop the file with -stream_loop -1. Put that input option before the file’s -i, pace playback with -re, and send the resulting stream to the RTMPS URL and stream key from YouTube Live Control Room. NGINX RTMP is optional: use it when you need a separate RTMP server to receive, relay, or process a stream—not simply to make a file repeat.

What each part does

  • FFmpeg reads the video, repeats it, and can copy or encode its audio and video streams.
  • YouTube Live supplies the ingest URL and stream key that identify where your broadcast goes.
  • NGINX RTMP provides an RTMP server layer for receiving or relaying streams. It does not itself loop the source file.

There is no Hindi-specific FFmpeg loop setting. Language does not determine codec, resolution, frame rate, audio layout, rights, or server capacity; check those for the actual video.

Prepare the video and YouTube stream

Check your source file

Choose a video you have permission to stream. Inspect its video and audio streams, resolution, frame rate, codecs, and audio layout, and watch the point where playback returns from the end to the beginning. A black frame, silence, abrupt cut, or mismatched sound can make a technically successful loop look or sound broken.

FFmpeg’s -stream_loop -1 means loop the input indefinitely. It is an input option, so place it before the corresponding -i. FFmpeg documents -re as reading input at its native frame rate; for a file sent as a live output, this paces the file rather than sending it as fast as the machine can read it. Neither option repairs a damaged file, prevents encoding overload, nor restores a dropped network connection. See the FFmpeg command documentation.

Get the YouTube ingest credentials

  1. In YouTube Live Control Room, create or schedule a live stream.
  2. Open the stream’s Stream settings and copy its stream URL and stream key.
  3. Use the RTMPS URL when available; YouTube recommends RTMPS for encrypted ingest. Keep the stream key private, as anyone with it may be able to broadcast to your stream.

YouTube’s RTMPS instructions explain where to find these values and what to check if the SSL connection fails, including the scheme, server, and port guidance.

Loop a file directly to YouTube with FFmpeg

For a single video file, a direct FFmpeg-to-YouTube setup is the simplest architecture. The following is a command shape, not a tested, universal command:

ffmpeg -re -stream_loop -1 -i "hindi-video.mp4" [encoding and mapping options] -f flv "RTMPS_URL/STREAM_KEY"

Replace the filename, URL, and key with your own values. Fill in the encoding and mapping options to match the source streams and YouTube’s current ingest requirements. Endpoint formatting, FFmpeg build capabilities, and source stream layout vary, so confirm the correct URL format for the URL and key shown in your Live Control Room rather than assuming every service formats them identically. The -f flv output format is commonly used for this RTMP-family ingest workflow, but the template alone does not establish that a particular FFmpeg build or endpoint will work.

Choose copy or encoding based on the source

Stream copy avoids re-encoding, but is appropriate only if the source streams and output arrangement are compatible with YouTube’s ingest requirements. If they are not, configure FFmpeg to encode video and audio into supported formats. Check that your installed FFmpeg build includes the encoders you choose, and map the intended audio and video streams when a file contains multiple tracks. Do not add arbitrary codec or bitrate settings without matching them to the source and target resolution and frame rate.

Match YouTube’s current encoder guidance

YouTube’s encoder recommendations list RTMP/RTMPS, H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 video, frame rates up to 60 fps, constant bitrate (CBR), and AAC or MP3 audio. YouTube recommends a 2-second keyframe interval and says not to exceed 4 seconds. Its bitrate recommendations depend on codec, resolution, and frame rate. For H.264 at 1080p30, the YouTube Help guidance accessed October 3, 2026 lists 5 Mbps minimum and 14 Mbps recommended; at 720p30 it lists 3 Mbps minimum and 8 Mbps recommended. These are YouTube’s current guidance values, not universal settings for every video or encoder. Check the current YouTube encoder settings and select the values for your actual output.

When to add NGINX RTMP

Use NGINX RTMP if your setup needs an RTMP server to accept a contribution stream, relay it, or work as part of a processing pipeline. For a file that FFmpeg can send directly to YouTube, NGINX is not inherently required. Adding it creates another service to configure, monitor, and maintain.

The open-source nginx-rtmp-module README describes building and configuring that module. F5’s NGINX Plus RTMP dynamic-module documentation covers its NGINX Plus package; it is not a universal installation guide for every NGINX distribution or build. Match instructions to the NGINX edition, operating system, and module availability you actually use.

Test and monitor before relying on a loop

  1. Start with a representative section that includes speech or music, motion, and the file’s loop point.
  2. Start the broadcast and check YouTube’s stream health for ingest warnings, dropped frames, or audio and video problems.
  3. Confirm the video and audio return cleanly at the loop boundary and that the output matches the selected resolution, frame rate, codec, and bitrate.
  4. Test the process and network under the conditions you expect for a long run. A successful short test does not prove that a 24/7 deployment will remain stable.

YouTube advises testing before going live and monitoring stream health in its encoder guidance. A loop option repeats media; it is not an uptime guarantee.

Choose where FFmpeg runs

Approach When it fits Trade-off
FFmpeg on your computer You can keep the machine and its internet connection available while streaming. The process depends on that computer staying on and connected.
FFmpeg on a hosted server or VPS You want the process to run on a remote host rather than your personal computer. Check sustained CPU capacity, outbound bandwidth, service limits, and reliability for your chosen encoding and stream. Suitability varies by provider and plan.
NGINX RTMP plus FFmpeg You need a separate RTMP ingest, relay, or processing layer. It adds configuration and maintenance; it is not required just to loop one file directly to YouTube.

Compare options by whether you need a separate ingest or relay, where the process must stay online, whether the machine can encode the selected format, available upstream bandwidth, operational complexity, and how you will monitor or restart the process. No named provider’s price or capacity is established here.

Troubleshoot common failures

YouTube does not receive the stream

  • Check the URL and key: recopy both from that stream’s Live Control Room settings and ensure the key is private.
  • Check RTMPS details: verify the scheme and server, and follow YouTube’s port guidance if the SSL connection fails.
  • Check the output: confirm FFmpeg is using the intended output format and a URL assembled in the format required by the supplied endpoint.

The loop does not repeat

  • Make sure -stream_loop -1 appears before the relevant file’s -i. It applies to an input; placing it after the input does not set that file’s loop count.
  • Check that FFmpeg is reading the intended file and that the process has not exited because of an input or output error.

Video or audio is rejected or unhealthy

  • Compare the actual codec, frame rate, resolution, bitrate mode, keyframe interval, and audio codec with YouTube’s current encoder recommendations.
  • If copying the streams is incompatible, choose supported encoding settings and verify that your FFmpeg build has the required encoders.
  • Check stream mapping and audio tracks if the file has multiple streams or the expected audio is missing.

Playback stutters or disconnects

  • -re paces file input; it does not fix slow encoding, insufficient bandwidth, or unstable connectivity.
  • Check machine CPU capacity, outbound bandwidth, and YouTube stream health. If using NGINX, also check that the RTMP service and relay path are running.
  • Plan how the process will be monitored and restarted. A command that works once does not guarantee automatic recovery after every failure.

Protect the channel and the content

Only stream material you are entitled to use, including its music, recordings, images, and any third-party footage. A Hindi-language label does not establish permission. YouTube’s ingest and encoder documentation cannot determine whether a particular video is copyright-safe or whether a channel or stream is eligible under YouTube policies; review the applicable rights and platform rules for your content and channel before starting.

Or let it run in the cloud

If you would rather not maintain a computer, FFmpeg process, or RTMP server yourself, StreamNeo keeps an uploaded video or playlist live on YouTube from the cloud. Upload the recording, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; it streams the uploaded file as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. The monthly price is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo streams to YouTube only and plays uploaded videos, not a live camera feed. Start the free first day.
