If your Restreamer stream reaches YouTube but viewers hear nothing, check the audio path from source to destination: confirm Restreamer is using the real audio source, test that source, inspect audio filters, then check YouTube’s ingest codec and stream-health message. For YouTube Live over RTMP/RTMPS, YouTube lists AAC and MP3 as supported audio codecs; its recommended stereo baseline is 44.1 kHz and 128 Kbps. Those settings cannot restore sound that is missing or muted before encoding.
1. Confirm Restreamer is configured to send the real audio
Open the active stream’s settings and inspect its audio configuration. Restreamer’s audio wizard distinguishes three states:
| Wizard option | What it sends | When it fits |
|---|---|---|
| Audio | The selected audio source and its signal | Choose and configure this when viewers should hear the program. |
| Silence | A silent audio track | Useful only when a destination requires an audio channel but the stream is intentionally silent. It does not recover program sound. |
| No audio | No audio track | Not suitable when the stream needs audible sound; some destinations require an active audio channel. |
Restreamer notes that services such as YouTube may require an active audio channel. If you want audible content, select the actual source carrying that sound rather than Silence or No audio. Restreamer documentation
2. Test the selected source
Use the source’s check function in Restreamer and read its detail message if the check fails. A visible picture does not establish that the selected audio source is carrying sound: the source itself must contain audio, and Restreamer must be configured to use that source.

- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Restreamer’s documented network-audio settings recommend a 44,100 Hz sample rate and provide mono and stereo layout options. Match the configured rate and layout to the actual source and intended output; do not treat 44,100 Hz as a universal fix for every input type. Restreamer audio source settings
3. Inspect audio processing and channel settings
If the source check succeeds but sound is still absent or extremely quiet, inspect the active audio filters. Restreamer documents controls for sample rate, layout, pan, volume, and normalization. Check that:

- Neither the left nor right channel is muted by the pan setting.
- The selected mono or stereo layout matches the incoming audio.
- The volume is not turned down too far.
- Normalization or other processing is not producing an unintended level.
Changing output bitrate will not fix a channel muted by pan or a source that contains no signal. Restreamer audio processing settings
4. Check YouTube’s audio encoder settings
For YouTube Live using RTMP/RTMPS, YouTube lists AAC and MP3 as accepted audio codecs. Its advanced recommendations are:

| Audio layout | Recommended sample rate | Recommended bitrate |
|---|---|---|
| Stereo | 44.1 kHz | 128 Kbps |
| 5.1 surround | 48 kHz | 384 Kbps |
For a typical stereo stream, a practical baseline is AAC at 44.1 kHz and 128 Kbps. This follows YouTube’s published recommendation, but it is not a guarantee: it will not fix an absent input signal, an incorrect Restreamer source, or a muted channel. YouTube recommends testing with representative audio and video before going live. YouTube: Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions
5. Verify the Restreamer-to-YouTube connection and read stream health
Confirm publication in Restreamer
In Restreamer’s YouTube Publication Service workflow, enter a valid YouTube streaming ID and save. Check that the connected stream’s bitrate appears in Restreamer. This confirms a stream connection, but does not by itself prove that usable audio is reaching YouTube. Restreamer YouTube publication setup

Use YouTube’s error to narrow the cause
Open YouTube Live Control Room and check stream health. YouTube reports errors beside the health indicator, including their timestamps. Interpret the message before changing settings:
- “Your encoder is sending no audio.” Recheck the source selected in Restreamer and the path through its audio processing. The likely problem is that audio is absent or not being passed through.
- Unsupported audio codec. Check the output encoder and use an audio codec YouTube accepts, such as AAC or MP3.
YouTube documents both conditions in its live-stream error guidance. YouTube: Live streaming error messages

6. Troubleshoot by symptom
| What you see or hear | What to check next |
|---|---|
| Video arrives, but YouTube reports no audio | Confirm the source itself contains sound; in Restreamer, select Audio and the correct source rather than Silence or No audio; run the source check. |
| The source check succeeds, but viewers hear nothing | Inspect the selected audio filters, especially pan, channel layout, and volume. |
| YouTube reports an unsupported codec | Check the output audio encoder and select AAC or MP3. |
| Audio works in the source but not on YouTube | Compare the source and output layout and sample rate, verify the Restreamer publication connection, then use YouTube stream health to distinguish missing audio from a codec error. |
| Only one side of stereo is audible | Inspect pan and confirm the incoming and configured layouts agree; Restreamer’s pan controls can mute either channel. |
7. Test before the next live session
- In Restreamer, select the real audio source and run its check. Resolve any detail message it returns.
- Verify that the configured source rate and mono/stereo layout match the source.
- Inspect filters for muted channels, unsuitable layout, or very low volume.
- For a stereo YouTube Live feed, try AAC, 44.1 kHz, and 128 Kbps as the starting output configuration.
- Start a test stream and listen to the result while watching YouTube Live Control Room’s stream-health indicator. Use representative audio and video, as YouTube recommends.
