A steady 24/7 stream uses about 324 decimal GB per 30 days for every 1 Mbps of total encoded bitrate. That makes a 5 Mbps stream roughly 1.62 TB a month and an 8 Mbps stream roughly 2.59 TB, before audio or transport overhead if those are not included in the selected bitrate. These are bitrate calculations, not measured IRL Pro results or a guarantee of what a carrier will bill.
Estimate data use from the stream bitrate
For a steady total encoded bitrate, multiply Mbps by about 0.45 to estimate decimal GB per hour. A constant 1 Mbps works out to about 10.8 GB per day or 324 GB in 30 days. Actual usage can vary with audio, protocol overhead, bitrate adaptation and network behavior.

The estimates use decimal units (1 GB = 1,000 MB) and assume the listed number is the steady total encoded bitrate. YouTube lists audio bitrate separately in its advanced settings; if IRL Pro’s selected bitrate is video-only, add audio and allow for overhead. A configured maximum is not necessarily the delivered average when the app adapts to a connection.
Choose a bitrate the connection can sustain
YouTube’s encoder guidance varies by codec, resolution and frame rate. For H.264, it lists 5 Mbps for 1080p30 and 14 Mbps for 1080p30; for 720p30 it lists 3 Mbps minimum and 8 Mbps recommended. The 14 Mbps figure is YouTube’s encoder-setting recommendation, not a universal mobile IRL target. Enhanced IRL’s IRL Pro setup guide says IRL Pro broadcasts over a single connection without bonding. For its Stream Key plans, the guide shows a 9,000 kbps cap and a 1080p30 starting point; users are directed to keep resolution, frame rate and bitrate under the key cap and keep adaptive-bitrate maximum below it. Those are Enhanced IRL key limits, not YouTube-wide limits or a promise for every IRL Pro destination.
- Check the upload at the stream location. Test the connection where and when the stream will run; advertised download speed does not establish sustained upload performance.
- Set a conservative bitrate. Keep it below the applicable key cap and choose a level the route can sustain, rather than treating a high encoder recommendation as a target for an unstable mobile connection.
- Test with realistic content. Include the audio and amount of movement expected during the stream. YouTube advises: “Make sure to test before you start your live stream.”
- Monitor stream health and actual bitrate. If the connection adapts or drops, estimate monthly data from the average delivered bitrate rather than the configured maximum.
What an Indian connection changes
The data arithmetic per Mbps is the same in India as elsewhere. What differs is each plan’s allowance, eligibility, coverage, usage conditions and sustained upload at the actual location. The following published terms are examples for specific plans, not a ranking of Indian providers; check the provider’s current terms before committing to continuous streaming.

Mobile data and 5G
- Airtel’s published terms describe specified prepaid price points as personal, non-commercial use, reserve rights to suspend, modify or throttle service in certain commercial-use cases, and define commercial usage as data beyond 300 GB in 30 days for those price points. Even a steady 3 Mbps stream is about 972 GB per month by the calculation above. Review the Airtel terms for the exact plan before relying on it.
- Jio says unlimited 5G data requires an eligible plan, a compatible 5G device and Jio True 5G coverage. That eligibility does not establish uninterrupted upload performance or permission for a particular 24/7 workload; see the Jio plan FAQ.
Fixed broadband and fair-use limits
Fixed-line plans can have different usage ceilings. JioFiber prepaid terms state a 3300 GB commercial-use policy in a 30-day recharge cycle for Truly Unlimited Plans. Airtel terms describe a 3333 GB fair-use threshold per billing cycle for a specified plan, after which speed may be reduced. At 8 Mbps, the baseline estimate is about 2,592 GB per 30 days; at 10 Mbps, about 3,240 GB, already close to those thresholds before overhead. Check whether a plan suits continuous streaming
“Unlimited” wording alone does not establish that a connection can carry a stable 24/7 stream. Compare the specific connection and plan on these points:

- The bitrate, codec and frame rate that maintain stable stream health on the tested route.

Troubleshoot the estimate or stream
- Data use is higher than the table: Check whether the selected bitrate excludes audio, whether overhead is being counted, and whether the app’s delivered bitrate differs from the setting. Compare the provider meter over a measured test interval.
- The stream becomes unstable: Test sustained upload at the stream location, lower the bitrate, and check the live stream’s health. A higher target is useful only if the route can sustain it.
- The stream key cap is exceeded: For an Enhanced IRL key, keep the selected bitrate and adaptive maximum below the cap shown in that key plan; do not assume this cap applies to all destinations or keys.
- A provider slows or restricts service: Check that exact plan’s current fair-use and usage terms, including billing-cycle definitions and hotspot rules. A data estimate is not evidence that a plan permits the workload.
