Choose IRL Pro’s resolution and bitrate for the upload connection you can sustain in real conditions—not the highest setting available. YouTube’s recommended 30 fps ingest rates are 10 Mbps for AV1/H.265 or 14 Mbps for H.264 at 1080p, and 6 Mbps for AV1/H.265 or 8 Mbps for H.264 at 720p. Leave upload headroom, test with representative motion, and monitor stream health. These are YouTube recommendations, not guaranteed stable presets for every phone or IRL Pro setup.
Recommended starting bitrates
Resolution, codec and bitrate work together: at the same resolution and frame rate, YouTube’s recommended ingest bitrate differs by codec. Use the table as a platform reference, then choose the lowest tested setting that preserves acceptable detail and motion on your actual connection.

YouTube lists minimum as well as recommended bitrates; the values above are the recommended rates, not minimums. Confirm the codec is supported by the phone encoder, app or service workflow, and YouTube destination before selecting it. YouTube’s general guidance is to choose a quality that can produce a reliable stream for the available connection and to test upload bitrate: YouTube live encoder settings.
Plan for real mobile upload conditions
A speed test taken once in a convenient location cannot establish what a moving or shared mobile connection will sustain throughout a long broadcast. YouTube recommends leaving 20% upload headroom; competing traffic on a shared connection can reduce the bandwidth available to the stream. Test in the locations and network conditions the broadcast is likely to encounter, and lower the target if the connection fluctuates.

- Measure upload performance under realistic conditions, including the times and places you expect to stream.
- Keep the stream bitrate below the sustained capacity available to it, with YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom.
- Test movement, busy scenes and audio similar to the planned broadcast; a static image may conceal problems that appear during motion.
- Watch YouTube stream health during a private or unlisted test and adjust before relying on the stream.
Set up and test IRL Pro with YouTube
- Enable live streaming and create the broadcast. In YouTube, use Live Control Room to create the stream and obtain the connection details. YouTube says first-time live activation may take up to 24 hours. Follow its encoder setup instructions.
- Choose a resolution, frame rate and codec that your setup supports. Select them in IRL Pro or its associated workflow where available. Start at 720p30 if 1080p30 cannot be sustained with headroom; test the relevant codec rather than assuming every phone offers the same encoder options.
- Set a conservative bitrate. Use YouTube’s recommended rate for the chosen resolution, frame rate and codec as a reference point, then test whether the connection can sustain it. If stream health deteriorates or upload varies, reduce the bitrate or resolution and test again.
- Check encoder controls before applying YouTube’s general recommendations. YouTube recommends CBR and a 2-second keyframe interval, and says not to exceed 4 seconds. Treat these as platform encoder guidance, not confirmed IRL Pro controls: verify that the app or service actually exposes those settings.
- Confirm the protocol and connection route. Enhanced IRL’s instructions describe RTMP and SRT support in its workflow, while stating that IRL Pro broadcasts over a single connection without bonding there. Its bitrate caps and sample rates apply to that service’s plans, not all IRL Pro use. Check the selected service’s limits and test the route you will use.
- Run a private or unlisted test and monitor stream health. Include representative motion and audio, and observe for instability before switching to a public broadcast.
- Test the phone for an extended period. Monitor heat, charging behavior and battery drain during a sufficiently long test. A third-party IRL Pro guide reports heat and battery concerns, but does not establish a safe unattended operating profile. A power bank may be relevant for long sessions, but compatibility, charging behavior and runtime are device-specific; it does not establish that overheating will be prevented.
Plan around YouTube’s 12-hour archive limit
YouTube says a stream that exceeds 12 hours may not be captured at all; DVR rewind may also be limited or unavailable beyond 12 hours. If a complete replay matters, schedule sessions under 12 hours and/or use a separate local or external recording path. Check that the recording is actually growing during the stream and verify the finished file; do not assume a long broadcast will be archived in full. See YouTube’s live stream recording guidance.
What IRL Pro settings can—and cannot—be assumed
The IRL Pro material available here does not establish an official preset for 24/7 YouTube streaming, a phone temperature limit, or a reliable unattended operating profile. A maintained third-party setup guide describes configurable bitrate, format, resolution and frame rate and reports battery drain and overheating concerns. Those reports support testing the particular handset and setup; they do not prove that a specific profile is safe for continuous unattended use.

Likewise, Enhanced IRL’s single-connection, no-bonding description applies to its own stated workflow. Do not assume multiple mobile connections are bonded, or apply that service’s caps to another route. Codec performance and protocol behavior depend on the phone, app, service and network; the available evidence does not establish one codec or protocol as best for every handset.
Troubleshooting unstable or poor-quality video
- Stream health worsens or the stream drops: the upload route may not sustain the target, or available bandwidth may have changed. Repeat an upload test under the current conditions, preserve headroom, then lower bitrate or resolution and retest.
- Video looks soft or breaks up during movement: motion may reveal limitations hidden by a static test. Test representative scenes; compare 720p and 1080p at their codec-specific recommended rates, and keep the higher setting only if the connection remains stable.
- The chosen bitrate or codec is unavailable: the phone encoder or service workflow may not expose or support it. Confirm supported formats and controls for the exact setup before selecting a different stream target.
- A service rejects the stream or it fails to connect: verify the stream key, destination, protocol and the selected service plan’s caps. A bitrate limit from one service is not a universal IRL Pro limit.
- The phone heats up, drains rapidly or behaves differently while charging: stop relying on the setup unattended. Test the handset, charging arrangement and stream duration separately; the reviewed guidance does not define a safe universal temperature or charging configuration.
- The replay is missing or incomplete: a broadcast exceeding 12 hours may not be captured, and DVR rewind may be limited. Use sessions shorter than 12 hours when archive continuity matters, or maintain and verify a separate recording.
