Set up two separate publishing links: send Larix Broadcaster to the relay’s ingest URL and credential, then configure the relay to send that feed to YouTube using the RTMPS URL and stream key from YouTube Live Control Room. The relay’s exact setup depends on the software or service you choose, but the two-leg workflow is the same.
How the Larix-to-YouTube relay path works
- Phone to relay: Larix publishes the camera feed to the relay’s ingest endpoint, using the URL and credential supplied by the relay administrator.
- Relay to YouTube: The relay forwards the feed to YouTube’s ingest endpoint using the destination URL and stream key from YouTube Live Control Room.
- Preflight: Test the complete path and confirm the feed and stream health in YouTube before the event.
These are separate connections with separate credentials. Do not put YouTube’s destination stream key into Larix unless the relay administrator explicitly configured that value as the relay’s inbound credential. Larix’s URL may be entered as a server/application URL plus a stream name or key, or as one complete URL, depending on the field format. Softvelum’s documentation describes the URL components and illustrates the combined format server/application/stream-name; follow the format expected by your relay and Larix connection field (Softvelum Larix documentation).
Configure Larix Broadcaster to publish to the relay
- Ask the relay administrator for its ingest protocol (RTMP or RTMPS), hostname, port if required, application path, and inbound stream name or key. Confirm whether the relay expects a full URL or separate server and stream-name fields.
- In Larix Broadcaster, open Connections and add a new publishing connection. Select RTMP or RTMPS to match the relay’s advertised endpoint.
- Enter the relay’s server/application URL and credential in the appropriate fields. If Larix expects one full connection URL, join the supplied components only as directed by the relay administrator. Do not copy illustrative URLs or keys from documentation into a real connection.
- Save the connection, then make a short test broadcast and confirm the relay receives it.
Larix supports publishing to RTMP and RTMPS recipients. Its documented mobile capabilities include H.264/AVC video and AAC audio; HEVC transmission using Enhanced RTMP is a premium feature on supported devices, so do not assume every phone or Larix build can send it (Softvelum Larix).
Configure the relay to publish to YouTube
- In YouTube Live Control Room, open the stream’s settings. In Stream settings, reveal the RTMPS URL with the lock icon in the Stream URL field, then copy that URL and the stream key.
- In the relay’s output or destination settings, enter YouTube’s RTMPS ingest URL and the matching YouTube stream key. The relay product determines the exact field names and configuration steps.
- Use the primary or backup ingest address that corresponds to the stream and protocol selected in Control Room. YouTube’s API documents separate RTMPS ingest addresses and stream names; some encoders combine them as
STREAM_URL/STREAM_NAME(YouTube Live Streaming API: liveStreams). - Start a test from Larix and verify that the relay forwards it and YouTube receives it.
YouTube recommends RTMPS, a secure extension to RTMP. If you use secure ingest, make sure the destination is the RTMPS address shown by Control Room rather than an RTMP address. Keep the relay’s inbound credential distinct from the YouTube key; restrict access to the latter and rotate it through YouTube if exposed. How the relay stores credentials depends on its implementation.

Choose video, audio, and network settings
Match the encoder output to YouTube’s current guidance and to what your phone and mobile connection can sustain. YouTube’s encoder recommendations cover RTMP/RTMPS, H.264, H.265/HEVC, or AV1 video; up to 60 fps; constant bitrate encoding; and AAC or MP3 audio. Not every option is available in every Larix build or on every device.

Note: This device is not compatible with Linux.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (5-in-1, 4K HDMI), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
- Resolution, frame rate, and bitrate: Select the row on YouTube’s current bitrate chart that matches your codec, resolution, and frame rate. Recommended bitrate varies across those combinations; a single universal target would be misleading. Use a bitrate within both YouTube’s recommendation and the phone’s reliable upload capacity.
- Keyframes: YouTube recommends a 2-second keyframe interval and says not to exceed 4 seconds.
- Rate control: YouTube’s guidance recommends constant bitrate (CBR) encoding.
- Audio: Use AAC or MP3 for RTMP/RTMPS and verify that the stream actually contains an audio track.
- Mobile uplink: Test from the location and network you intend to use. Larix’s FAQ notes that poor network conditions can cause frame loss with RTMP/RTSP; reduce output quality or bitrate, or use supported adaptive-bitrate options if appropriate.
Consult YouTube’s live encoder settings for its current recommendations and bitrate chart; the values vary by output format (YouTube Help: Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions). YouTube’s API also documents stream health and ingest status for live broadcasts (YouTube Live Streaming API: liveBroadcasts).
Run a full-path test before the broadcast
- Use the same phone, Larix profile, relay route, destination key, and network conditions planned for the event.
- Include representative movement and audio so you can detect frame drops, silent audio, or other issues that a static or muted test could miss.
- Start Larix and confirm the relay reports receiving the feed. Then confirm the relay is forwarding it to YouTube.
- Check YouTube Live Control Room’s stream status and health indicators for warnings about bitrate, codec, audio, keyframes, or an interrupted feed.
- Resolve any warning and repeat the test before the actual broadcast.
YouTube recommends a preflight test and monitoring stream health. A relay may expose additional metrics, but what it reports depends on the product and configuration.

Troubleshoot common relay problems
Larix cannot connect to the relay
- Recheck the relay’s protocol, hostname, port, application path, and inbound key, including whether Larix expects a full URL or separate fields.
- Confirm that the phone’s current network can reach the relay host.
- If the relay is on a local network and the phone is connecting across a WAN/LAN boundary, network routing or a router NAT/port-forwarding rule may be needed. This is situation-specific, not a universal Larix requirement.
The relay receives video, but YouTube does not
- Check the relay’s outbound YouTube URL and key independently of the Larix-to-relay credential.
- Confirm the relay is using the current destination shown in the relevant YouTube Control Room stream settings.
- Inspect YouTube’s stream status and health for codec, bitrate, audio, keyframe, or feed-starvation warnings.
RTMPS or SSL error
- Verify that the destination came from YouTube’s RTMPS field and uses an
rtmpsURL. - YouTube notes that specifying port 443 may help with some SSL errors if the URL and encoder allow it. Use the actual hostname and path displayed by Control Room, not a documentation example.
Video is present but audio is missing
- Check that Larix is sending an audio track and that the selected audio format is compatible with the RTMP/RTMPS output.
- YouTube’s API identifies
noAudioStreamas a stream-configuration issue; review the encoder’s audio settings and repeat the test.
The mobile feed is unstable
- Lower the resolution, frame rate, or bitrate to fit the available uplink.
- Use Larix adaptive bitrate options only if supported by your build and appropriate for the relay path.
- Repeat the test under conditions similar to the live event rather than assuming a successful test on a different network proves the mobile link is stable.
Or let it run in the cloud
For a camera broadcast, Larix plus a relay is the relevant setup. If your goal instead is to keep uploaded video playing as a 24/7 YouTube stream, StreamNeo is a separate cloud option: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It does not publish a live camera feed.
