To remove the title displayed over the video, open Tools > Preferences, set Show Settings to All, select Video, clear Show media title on video, click Save, and restart VLC. If the text remains, check whether your stream capture includes VLC’s window title bar: that is controlled separately from the on-video overlay.
Turn off the title over the video
- In VLC, open Tools > Preferences.
- In the preferences window, change Show Settings to All.
- Select Video in the preferences list.
- Clear Show media title on video.
- Click Save, then restart VLC so the change takes effect.
VideoLAN’s Windows FAQ documents this route and advises saving and restarting VLC. The setting controls whether VLC displays the video’s title on top of the movie; VLC source says its default display time is 5 seconds. VideoLAN FAQ · VLC source
The cited FAQ is specifically for Windows. Menu names and layout may differ across operating systems, VLC versions, and interface modules.
If the title is still visible
First identify where the text appears in the captured image. Text over the picture points to the video overlay setting above. Text in the VLC window frame may instead be the controller’s title bar, which is a separate setting.

Check whether the capture includes VLC’s title bar
If your streaming setup captures the entire VLC window, the capture may include the window title bar as well as the video. Inspect the captured image to see whether the text is on the picture or in the frame before changing more preferences.
Distinguish the window-title setting
VLC’s Qt interface has an option named Show playing item name in window title (internally, qt-name-in-title). It controls the playing item name in the controller window title, not the title overlay on the video. The available VLC source documents the option but does not establish one universal menu path, so its location may depend on your VLC version and interface. VLC Qt source

For applications using LibVLC
If you embed LibVLC rather than use VLC’s desktop preferences, its API documents libvlc_position_disable as a way to disable title display. Consult the API documentation for the version you use. LibVLC media player API
