The simplest setup uses streamcopy, but that works reliably only when the files have compatible streams, codecs and time bases. If they do not, normalize or re-encode them before streaming.
1. Prepare and check your Tamil video files
Put the videos in the intended order and check that each file plays correctly. For a smooth concatenation, the files should have matching stream layouts, codecs and time bases. Matching resolution, frame rate and audio layout also helps avoid output incompatibilities.
FFmpeg’s concat demuxer requires the same streams in each file, including matching codecs and time bases. Unequal stream lengths can introduce gaps, and inaccurate or truncated duration metadata can cause artifacts. See the FFmpeg concat demuxer documentation.
2. Create the playlist file
Create a plain-text file named playlist.txt in the directory from which you will run FFmpeg. List each video with a file directive, in playback order:

file 'video-03.mp4'Use paths that resolve from FFmpeg’s working directory, or provide suitable full paths. If a path contains spaces or special characters, quote or escape it according to FFmpeg’s concat syntax.
The first input begins at timestamp zero and subsequent inputs are placed after it. If playback develops gaps or transition artifacts, check path syntax and source duration metadata, as well as stream compatibility.
3. Choose streamcopy or re-encoding
Use streamcopy when the inputs are compatible
Streamcopy passes the encoded streams through without decoding and re-encoding. It is fast and avoids another lossy encode, but cannot apply filters and does not make incompatible files compatible. Try it only when the inputs have matching streams and the output codecs are suitable for YouTube.

Normalize files that differ
If the playlist mixes codecs, dimensions, frame rates, time bases or audio layouts, normalize or re-encode the files to a common target before concatenating. Re-encoding is also needed when you want to apply filters or when YouTube cannot use the source codec. Consult the FFmpeg documentation for streamcopy and transcoding behavior.

- Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room and create or schedule a live stream.
- Open the event’s Stream settings.
- Reveal and copy the RTMPS URL and stream key. Choose RTMPS rather than the ordinary RTMP endpoint when using the secure transport.
- Keep the key private. Do not show it in screenshots, public logs or a script shared with others. Treat it like a password; use a placeholder in examples.
Follow YouTube’s RTMPS streaming instructions. Depending on the encoder’s destination format, the stream key may need to be appended to the RTMPS URL as STREAM_URL/STREAM_NAME. YouTube’s Live Streaming API documentation describes its ingestion options.
5. Configure FFmpeg and start a test stream
For compatible inputs, this template reads the playlist in real time and sends copied streams to YouTube. Replace the destination placeholder with the RTMPS URL and key format required by your encoder. Do not paste a real key into a public script or article.

ffmpeg -re -f concat -safe 0 -i playlist.txt -c copy -f flv "RTMPS_URL/STREAM_KEY"Use -re to read prerecorded input at its native frame rate when output pacing matters. Keep input options before the relevant -i; FFmpeg options apply to the next input or output. The example uses -safe 0 to allow paths that may not meet the concat demuxer’s safe-path rules, so only use it with a playlist you trust.
To loop the playlist indefinitely, add -stream_loop -1 before the input:
ffmpeg -re -stream_loop -1 -f concat -safe 0 -i playlist.txt -c copy -f flv "RTMPS_URL/STREAM_KEY"These options do not guarantee a stable broadcast; test with your actual files and FFmpeg build. If streamcopy fails, use normalized inputs or re-encode to a compatible output rather than assuming concat can reconcile different streams.

Check YouTube’s video and audio settings
YouTube’s current RTMP/RTMPS guidance lists H.264, H.265/HEVC and AV1 video; AAC or MP3 audio; and up to 60 fps. It recommends constant bitrate encoding and a two-second keyframe frequency, with four seconds as the maximum. For H.264, YouTube’s recommendations include 5 Mbps at 1080p30 and 3 Mbps at 720p30. These are recommendations for those specific codec, resolution and frame-rate combinations, not universal targets. Check the current YouTube encoder settings for other combinations.
With streamcopy, the source determines the encoded video and audio settings; FFmpeg is not changing them. Confirm that the source streams and resulting bitrate suit YouTube and your reliable upload capacity. Re-encode if you need to set a different resolution, bitrate, frame rate, keyframe interval or audio format.
Preview before making the event public
Start with a representative portion of the playlist, including moving video and audio. Check the YouTube preview and stream-health messages, confirm playback order and audio, and monitor whether the upload can sustain the chosen quality. YouTube advises testing before going live.

6. Troubleshoot common problems

7. Check rights before broadcasting
Using Tamil-language material does not change copyright obligations. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content, including another live broadcast; it may interrupt or terminate a stream for a copyright or Community Guidelines strike. Broadcast your own work or obtain the necessary rights and permissions for every video and audio track. Read YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance before the event.
