How to Keep an XSplit Broadcaster YouTube Stream Running After the Playlist Ends

Change the XSplit Video Playlist’s Play setting from Once to loop forever. Playlist playback and YouTube’s live-event controls are separate.

Set the XSplit Broadcaster Video Playlist source to loop forever. Its default is Once, so a playlist that reaches its final file will not repeat unless you change the source’s Play setting. This controls playlist playback, not whether the YouTube broadcast itself starts or ends.

Set the playlist to repeat

  1. In the active scene, choose Add source > Scene Widgets > Video Playlist. XSplit’s Creating a Video Playlist guide describes this path.
  2. Open the Video Playlist source properties, choose Add, and select the video files you want in the playlist. Arrange their order as needed, then save the source.
  3. In the source’s Play property, choose loop forever. XSplit documents three modes: Once (the default), loop forever, and custom for a specified number of plays. See its Scene Widgets guide.

Use custom instead of looping indefinitely when you want the playlist to repeat a finite number of times. The choice applies to the playlist source; it is not a YouTube broadcast-duration setting.

Start the YouTube broadcast separately

After setting the playlist, start the YouTube output through XSplit. Whether that also starts the public live event depends on the output’s Manual Transition setting: XSplit’s YouTube Live streaming guide says that with Manual Transition enabled, you must also click Go Live in YouTube Studio. Its scheduled-stream guide says Manual Transition is enabled by default; when it is unchecked, starting the XSplit broadcast starts the stream automatically.

A file ending or the playlist reaching its last item is different from stopping the XSplit output. XSplit’s scheduled-stream guide says that confirming the prompt to end the live event also ends the associated YouTube stream. To keep the broadcast running, leave the output active and do not use the command to end the live event.

If the stream still stops or the playlist does not repeat

  • It plays once and stops: Reopen the Video Playlist properties and check that Play is set to loop forever, not the default Once.
  • The XSplit output is running but YouTube is not live: Check whether Manual Transition is enabled. If it is, open YouTube Studio and click Go Live for the event.
  • The YouTube event ended: Check whether the XSplit output was stopped and the end-event prompt confirmed. Playlist repetition does not override the broadcast’s end controls.
  • A menu label differs: The cited setup and scheduled-stream guides were updated November 8, 2022; the repeat and source-overview pages are current XSplit Support documentation accessed October 3, 2026. They describe Broadcaster generally rather than stating a minimum version, so check the equivalent source property in your installed version if the wording differs.

Video Playlist is a software source for existing local files. XSplit’s Sources Menu introduction lists capture cards as a separate input category; a capture card is not required just to loop files already on the computer.
