Choose a format your connection can sustain continuously from the place vMix runs, then test the actual stream in YouTube Studio. These are encoder targets—not a minimum broadband-plan speed or a guarantee of uninterrupted streaming.
Recommended vMix starting settings
The right output depends on sustained upload capacity and the needs of the programme. A documentary with fine detail and motion may benefit from a higher resolution, but a stable lower-resolution stream is preferable to one that repeatedly loses health.

YouTube’s bitrate figures are platform recommendations, not India-specific measurements. The official guidance reviewed does not set an Indian broadband-plan threshold or provide a separate India bitrate table.
Measure the connection where vMix will run
A plan’s advertised speed does not establish the sustained upload available at the encoder’s location. Test from the actual premises, with the computer and network arrangement you intend to use. YouTube Help says: “We recommend running a speed test to test your upload bitrate.”

- Measure upload at the encoder location. Run a speed test from the PC that will run vMix, on the connection you will use. Do not substitute a different home, office or mobile connection’s result.
- Choose a format and matching bitrate. Compare the measured upload with YouTube’s bitrate target for the intended output. Retain additional capacity for ordinary network variation and other network use; YouTube does not prescribe a fixed headroom percentage.
- Test a representative programme. Send audio and moving video similar to the planned stream. Review YouTube Studio’s stream health and messages while the test is running.
- Test under normal network use. For a continuous broadcast, a meaningful test period under typical household or workplace traffic is prudent. The cited YouTube guidance does not specify a required duration.
Connect vMix to YouTube
vMix documents two ways to start a YouTube Live stream. The exact controls can change between software versions, so confirm the displayed options in your installed version.
Use a stream created in YouTube Studio
- In YouTube Studio, create or schedule the live stream and configure its available stream settings.
- Copy the stream key shown for that stream. Treat it as a secret: anyone with access to it may be able to broadcast to your channel.
- In vMix’s streaming settings, select the YouTube/custom stream workflow available in your version, then enter the stream key and the output settings.
- Start the stream from vMix and check the incoming preview and stream health in YouTube Studio before relying on it for a long broadcast.
Use vMix’s YouTube Live Stream Now destination
vMix also documents a YouTube Live Stream Now workflow that can create a stream from vMix. Follow the current prompts in the installed version, authorize the destination if requested, and verify the resulting stream in YouTube Studio.

What 24/7 operation can—and cannot—be inferred from settings
Correct encoder settings do not ensure that a particular vMix installation, Indian ISP, broadband plan or YouTube session will stay connected for 24 hours. Continuous performance depends on sustained upload and stability at the actual premises, as well as the computer and software remaining operational. Keep an eye on YouTube Studio’s stream health rather than treating a successful short test as a guarantee.
The official sources cited here do not establish YouTube’s current archive limit for continuous streams. If a complete saved recording matters, check YouTube’s current Live archive behavior and plan a local recording only after confirming available disk space and system capacity.

Troubleshooting a weak or interrupted stream
