Streamlabs’ current public setup guide covers scenes and sources generally, but does not document a universal multi-file playlist workflow or identical controls across Desktop versions. Check your version’s source options and test the sequence before going live.
Choose how the clips should play
| Method | How it works | Best when |
|---|---|---|
| Separate sources or scenes | You add each clip separately and make it visible, or switch to its scene, when you want it on air. | You want to choose the order live, pause between clips, or control transitions yourself. |
| Playlist-capable source | A compatible source plays multiple files consecutively. VLC supports sequential playback from a playlist, but Streamlabs Desktop’s current integration and controls are not established for every version. | You want clips to play in a set order without manually selecting each one, and your installed version exposes a suitable source. |
| Streamlabs Talk Studio | Talk Studio has a separate flow for uploading a prerecorded video, setting stream metadata and time, and scheduling a stream. | You want to upload and schedule a prerecorded video rather than build a local multi-clip sequence in Desktop. |
These are distinct workflows: Talk Studio’s upload-and-schedule feature does not establish that Desktop can queue several local files, and Streamlabs Media Share is a viewer-request widget, not a folder playlist.
Add and test multiple clips in Streamlabs Desktop
Option 1: Add clips as separate sources
- Open or create the scene. In Streamlabs Desktop, select the scene where the prerecorded segment should appear, or create a new scene for it.
- Add the first local video. In the Sources panel, use the add control to add a media or video source, then select the local file using the controls shown by your installed version. Streamlabs’ getting-started guide explains the general source workflow; the exact local-file labels can vary by version.
- Add the other clips. Repeat for each file you want available. Alternatively, create a separate scene for each clip if you prefer to switch scenes rather than manage several sources in one scene.
- Check what will be visible. In the preview, confirm source order, visibility, and sizing. If multiple video sources are visible together, they may cover or overlap one another; make only the intended clip visible when it is time to play.
- Check the sound. Play each clip and watch the audio mixer. Confirm that the intended audio source is active and that the clip’s sound can be heard at a sensible level.
- Switch during the broadcast. Make the intended source visible or change to its scene when you want each clip to play. Preview transitions and any pause between clips before the public stream.
Option 2: Try sequential playlist playback
- Inspect your installed source list. Look for a VLC video source or another source explicitly capable of playing a playlist. Availability, source names, and controls are not confirmed as identical across Streamlabs Desktop versions.
- If available, build the playlist. Add the clips in the desired order using that source’s controls. VLC’s documentation describes playlist-based sequential playback, but does not verify a particular Streamlabs Desktop integration or button sequence.
- Preview the complete sequence. Confirm that every file loads, plays in the intended order, fits the scene, and has audible sound. Test what happens at a clip’s end and between clips; do not assume the transition or repeat behavior without checking.
- If the source is missing or unreliable, use separate sources or scenes. That approach is the dependable fallback described above, with you controlling when each clip appears.
For version-specific controls, consult the Streamlabs Desktop getting-started guide and the Streamlabs Desktop support index. For playlist behavior itself, see VideoLAN’s VLC playlist documentation.
Connect Streamlabs Desktop to YouTube and test before going public
- Check channel eligibility. YouTube says a channel needs to be verified and have no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days to go live. See YouTube’s live-streaming getting-started guide.
- Connect the YouTube account and select the intended stream. Follow Streamlabs’ YouTube streaming guide for account connection and stream setup. Confirm you have selected the correct broadcast before starting the encoder.
- Inspect the preview and audio mixer. YouTube recommends checking the Live Control Room preview and monitoring audio and video quality when streaming with an encoder. If you can, make a private or unlisted test stream; otherwise, check the Streamlabs preview and mixer carefully before starting a public broadcast. Follow YouTube’s live-streaming tips.
- Start only after the clip is ready. Verify the first frame, sound, and intended scene or playlist behavior, then start the encoder.
Use clips and music you have the right to stream
Only include video, music, and other material for which your channel has the necessary rights. YouTube’s live-stream terms require the provider to have those rights, including music licensing rights. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content; unresolved matches can interrupt or terminate a stream. Even if you have a license, the rights holder may need to allowlist your channel through Content ID so the live broadcast is not interrupted. Read YouTube’s livestream terms and YouTube’s copyright help.

Fix common playback problems
- A clip does not appear: Check that its source is visible, belongs to the active scene, and is not covered by another source. Reopen the source controls and verify the selected file.
- The wrong clip appears or clips overlap: Review source order and visibility in the Sources panel, or put clips in separate scenes and switch deliberately.
- A playlist source is not available: The installed Desktop version may not expose one. Use separate sources or scenes; do not assume a VLC playlist control exists in every version.
- Clips play but have no sound: Check the clip’s audio activity in the mixer and confirm the intended audio source is enabled. Test the actual output before going live.
- A clip order or transition is wrong: Test the sequence in preview and inspect the playlist or scene order. Do not rely on behavior you have not verified in your version.
- YouTube interrupts the broadcast: Check the channel’s live eligibility and review any third-party-content notice. Resolve rights or Content ID allowlisting issues with the relevant rights holder; do not simply restart with the same disputed material.
