First find out where the audio/video mismatch occurs: in Streamlabs Desktop monitoring, a local recording, the YouTube live output, or the YouTube VOD. Those are different signal paths, so a delay setting that might help one can make another worse. Record a short test with the same scene and media source, compare it with what you hear in your headphones, and—if possible—check a private YouTube test and its VOD before changing anything.
Diagnose which output is out of sync
Note whether the audio leads the picture or lags behind it, and whether the gap stays roughly constant or grows during playback. Then compare the outputs:
- Monitoring only: The recording and YouTube output are aligned, but headphones are not. Investigate the monitoring path rather than changing stream timing.
- Local recording: The mismatch is already present in a recording made from the scene. Look at source timing and audio routing before testing YouTube.
- YouTube live output or VOD: Compare a private live test with its VOD and with the local recording. This helps establish whether the problem is already in the scene output or appears later in the YouTube path.
- Drift over time: If the gap grows rather than remaining fixed, record when the drift begins and how it changes. A fixed delay and gradual drift do not point to the same diagnosis.
Streamlabs recommends using a test recording or private stream and reviewing VODs when troubleshooting audio. Its live-stream audio guide also recommends checking that sources are not doubled or missing.
Check the Audio Mixer and source routing
With the affected scene open, inspect the Audio Mixer and the scene’s audio paths. Confirm that the media source is present where expected, is not muted, and is not reaching the output twice through a second capture of the same sound.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Look for the same program audio being sent by both the media source and another source, such as desktop audio.
- Check whether an intended source is missing, muted, or routed to the wrong mixer device.
- Change one routing choice at a time, then make another short recording to see whether the result changed.
Do not assume duplicated audio is the problem merely because the sound is late; use the recording and mixer meters to verify the route first.
If the source uses a capture card
Use this branch only when the audio in question comes through a capture card. Streamlabs’ “Streamlabs Desktop – Capture Card Issues/Solutions” support article gives device-specific guidance for the Video Capture Device properties: in the described setup, use “Capture audio only” and leave “Use custom audio device” unchecked. The article notes exceptions for particular line-in methods, so follow the path that matches your hardware rather than applying those settings to an ordinary local media file.

Check that the capture card is appearing on the intended mixer device and is not muted. If audio monitoring is enabled, test Monitor Only, Monitor and Output, or Monitor Off as controlled diagnostic changes appropriate to the setup. Streamlabs warns in the capture-card context: “Using Monitor and Output may cause an echo.” That warning concerns capture-card audio; it is not a universal fix for media-source sync.
Make a timing adjustment only after locating the fault
If both the local recording and YouTube VOD are out of sync, establish which source is early or late before changing its timing. Make one adjustment, record the same short test again, and compare the result. The official Streamlabs pages cited here do not document a universal media-source sync-offset value. Exact controls can vary by source type and installed Streamlabs Desktop build, so check the UI and documentation for your version rather than copying an unexplained number.

If the recording and YouTube output stay aligned but headphones gradually drift, treat this as a monitoring issue. In an OBS Project forum discussion dated 2023-04-24 onward, contributor Lawrence_SoCal describes how a monitor may follow a physical device’s clock while output follows OBS’s clock, and discusses interrupting the routing as a possible workaround. This is community guidance, not proof of a YouTube-output fault or a guaranteed Streamlabs Desktop fix. Test any monitoring change against a new recording and YouTube check.
Troubleshoot by symptom
| What you observe | What to check next |
|---|---|
| Headphones are out of sync, but recording and YouTube are aligned | Focus on monitoring mode and the monitoring route. Avoid changing output timing unless a recording confirms an output problem. |
| The local recording and VOD show the same mismatch | Inspect source timing and mixer routing. Confirm which sound or picture leads before making a source-specific timing change. |
| The sound appears doubled or echoes | Check for a second capture of the same audio and review mixer routing. If a capture card is involved, consider the Monitor and Output warning in Streamlabs’ capture-card guidance. |
| The mismatch gets worse during playback | Record how quickly the gap grows and whether it occurs in monitoring, recording, or YouTube. If only monitoring drifts, investigate that path separately. |
| A change seems to help one output but not another | Restore the prior setting if needed, isolate the affected output, and test one variable at a time. Do not rely on headphones alone to judge encoded output. |

Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is simply to keep uploaded documentary videos playing continuously on YouTube, StreamNeo is a separate cloud option—not a Streamlabs Desktop sync fix. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. StreamNeo loops the uploaded videos in the cloud, so your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. Each slot streams the upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot; it can automatically recover if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card required. Monthly service is $9.99 per month.
