To start a continuous devotional podcast stream on YouTube, verify your channel, check that it has no live-stream restriction from the previous 90 days, create an encoder stream in YouTube Studio, and send it from a compatible encoder using YouTube’s stream URL and key. Test the feed and plan for interruptions and archives: YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived, but does not promise a complete archive for a continuous stream lasting 24 hours or more.
What you need before going live
- A YouTube channel verified for live streaming, with no live-stream restriction in the previous 90 days. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.
- An encoder: software or dedicated hardware that sends your audio and video to YouTube. An encoder is flexible for a podcast with a static image, titles, audio inputs, or pre-recorded programming; dedicated hardware is not mandatory for a basic setup.
- A stable internet connection with sufficient upload capacity for your selected settings, plus a plan for monitoring and recovery.
- Permission for every song, recording, performance, and other protected material you plan to broadcast or archive.
YouTube’s published guidance does not guarantee that a stream can run indefinitely without intervention, nor does it establish how every account or region handles a stream longer than 12 hours. Treat “24/7” as an operational goal that requires monitoring and a tested recovery plan—not a platform guarantee.
Set up the YouTube encoder stream
- Open Live Control Room. In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live. Choose the encoder workflow, then create or schedule a stream. Set its title, description, visibility, and other event details. Scheduling creates a watch page you can share in advance. YouTube’s encoder setup instructions describe this workflow.
- Copy the stream URL and key. Enter both in your encoder’s streaming settings. Treat the key like a password: anyone who has it may be able to send a feed to your stream. Do not publish it or include it in screenshots.
- Configure video and audio. Use a supported codec and match the encoder’s resolution, frame rate, and bitrate to the visuals and your measured upload capacity. YouTube lists H.264, H.265, and AV1 for video and AAC or MP3 for audio for standard SDR RTMP/RTMPS streaming. Set rate control to CBR and a two-second keyframe interval; YouTube recommends two seconds and says not to exceed four seconds. Its encoder settings and bitrate guidance lists 10 Mbps as the recommended H.264 bitrate for 1080p at 30 fps and 4 Mbps for 720p at 30 fps. These are encoder recommendations, not substitutes for testing your own connection.
- Prefer RTMPS when supported. YouTube recommends RTMPS, which encrypts the feed in transit to Google’s servers. HLS is another ingestion option, but has higher latency than RTMP and requires an HLS-capable encoder and specific segment and playlist settings; it is not needed for the basic podcast workflow. See YouTube’s HLS ingest guidance.
- Send a test feed and inspect the preview. Start streaming from the encoder, wait for Live Control Room to show a preview, and check that the picture, audio levels, and synchronization are correct. Start the public broadcast only after the preview is right.
Choose settings for an audio-led devotional show
A podcast built around speech or devotional music may use a still image or modest visual treatment rather than a detailed, fast-moving picture. Choose resolution for the actual visuals and the viewers you serve; do not raise it simply because a higher setting is available. At the same time, make speech clear, avoid clipping, and check that any music is balanced against spoken introductions and announcements.
Use YouTube’s bitrate recommendations as a starting point, then leave capacity for network variation. YouTube recommends reliable connectivity, testing upload speed, and keeping 20% bandwidth headroom. The relevant figure is upload capacity, not download speed. Its streaming tips warn that a connection disruption can break a stream.

Make a 24/7 schedule resilient
Test the complete chain before launch
Run a private or unlisted test with the actual encoder, network, audio routing, and visuals you intend to use. Check Live Control Room’s preview and stream health, then open the watch page on a phone to confirm how it looks and sounds to a viewer. Test any backup connection or failover arrangement rather than assuming it will work when needed.
Assign monitoring and recovery responsibilities
Decide who will check the stream, how often they will check it, and what they will do if the encoder, computer, or network stops sending. Include steps to restart the feed, confirm that YouTube is receiving it, and verify the public watch page. YouTube advises advance testing and monitoring; its guidance does not promise that one computer or network will recover automatically.

Separate continuous broadcasting from replay planning
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Its encoder help does not promise a complete archive for a continuous stream over 12 hours. If a replay matters, consider dividing the programming into shorter scheduled sessions, and/or record an independent local master. Check that the local file is actually growing during the broadcast, and test the current archive behavior with a stream before relying on it. These precautions reduce dependence on an archive outcome YouTube does not establish for a 24-hour-plus session.
Clear music and performance rights before streaming
YouTube’s livestream terms require live content to comply with its Community Guidelines and say the content provider is responsible for obtaining the necessary rights, including music licensing rights, for use on Google services. See the YouTube Terms of Service. In India, the Copyright Act treats communication to the public broadly and distinguishes among musical works, sound recordings, and performances. The relevant statutory language includes an exception for certain works or sound recordings communicated “in the course of any bona fide religious ceremony.” That wording alone does not establish that a devotional podcast, continuous online channel, or recording used outside a ceremony qualifies. See the Copyright Act, 1957 and Copyright Rules, 2013.

For each item, identify the underlying composition and lyrics, the specific sound recording, and any performer contribution. Keep written permissions and confirm they cover online livestreaming, relevant territories and duration, monetized use if applicable, and replay or archive use. This is practical rights diligence, not a legal determination; do not assume that devotional subject matter by itself clears a recording.
Monetization and operating costs
Monetization is optional, not a prerequisite to start streaming. YouTube says channels in the YouTube Partner Program can monetize live streams; check your current eligibility and Studio settings before making revenue plans. A UPS may help keep the computer and network equipment running through a power interruption, but YouTube does not require one or specify a size. Select it for the actual equipment load and desired runtime.

Troubleshooting common problems
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check or do |
|---|---|---|
| You cannot start a live stream | The channel is not verified, or has a live-streaming restriction within the previous 90 days. | Review YouTube’s eligibility guidance and resolve the account issue shown in Studio before scheduling. |
| Live Control Room receives no signal | The encoder may have the wrong stream URL or key, may not be sending, or may be configured for an incompatible ingest path. | Recheck the copied URL and key, encoder output status, and RTMP/RTMPS or HLS settings. Keep the key private. |
| Preview is blank, silent, or distorted | Incorrect source selection, audio routing, encoding settings, or a mismatch between the intended programme and encoder output. | Inspect the preview before going public; verify the chosen audio and video sources, codec, resolution, frame rate, and audio levels. |
| Stream health deteriorates or the feed disconnects | Upload capacity may be inadequate or unstable, or the local encoder or network may have failed. | Measure upload speed on the actual connection, reduce bitrate if needed, preserve YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom, and test a recovery procedure or backup connection. |
| No complete replay appears after a long broadcast | YouTube’s automatic archive guidance applies to streams under 12 hours; it does not guarantee a full archive for longer continuous sessions. | Use shorter sessions if the replay is important, keep an independent local recording, and verify archive behavior in a test stream. |
| Music is claimed, blocked, or interrupted | A rights holder or YouTube system may identify a song or recording for which you lack the needed permission. | Check the specific composition, recording, and performance permissions and their online, territory, monetization, and replay scope. Do not rely on a religious-content label as proof of clearance. |
