To loop prepared Tamil gospel songs or a sermon recording on YouTube Live with FFmpeg, use -stream_loop -1 before the input file’s -i, then send the feed to the RTMPS ingest URL and stream key shown in YouTube Studio. That option requests an infinite input loop; it does not set encoding quality, guarantee a seamless transition, or keep a stream service running if the encoder or connection fails.
Before you start
This workflow is for prepared audio or video files sent to YouTube Live through an encoder. You do not need a particular hardware purchase established by the official guidance, but FFmpeg must run somewhere with a stable upload connection for the duration of the broadcast.
- Your YouTube channel must be verified, have no live-stream restrictions in the preceding 90 days, and the person streaming must be at least 16, according to YouTube’s current live-stream guidance.
- Use media you have permission to broadcast and archive. Tamil-language or gospel subject matter does not by itself grant rights to a song, recording, arrangement, backing track, or sermon recording.
- Install FFmpeg and identify the media file path. The sample command below is a template, not a command validated against your account or a guarantee of a successful live stream.
Get the YouTube ingest URL and stream key
- In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create or schedule a live stream.
- Copy the ingest URL and stream key shown for that stream. Prefer the RTMPS URL provided in the Live Control Room; YouTube recommends RTMPS because it encrypts the connection to its servers.
- Treat the key like a password. Do not publish it, share it in screenshots, or put it in a publicly visible script or command history. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Studio before broadcasting.
YouTube describes the stream key as the encoder’s password/address credential. Use the actual URL and key for the stream you created rather than assuming a fixed server address. See YouTube’s encoder setup guidance and RTMPS information.
Build the FFmpeg loop
FFmpeg documents -stream_loop -1 as infinite looping for an input. Place it before that input’s -i. For a file-based real-time stream, -re reads at the input’s native rate; without real-time pacing, a file can be read faster than its playback duration.

Choose encoder settings that match the source and connection
Set the output codec, resolution, frame rate, bitrate, audio format, and keyframe interval deliberately. YouTube’s current encoder guidance recommends constant bitrate (CBR), a 2-second keyframe interval (do not exceed 4 seconds), and lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 video with AAC or MP3 audio. Follow the current table for your codec and video mode rather than copying an unrelated bitrate.

Those figures are specific to H.264 at 1080p30 and should not be treated as a universal setting for other resolutions, frame rates, or codecs. Check YouTube’s current encoder settings table and make sure your sustained upload capacity can support the chosen output.
Start the encoder, verify the preview, and end the event
- Start FFmpeg with the completed command and watch its output for connection or encoding errors.
- In Live Control Room, wait for the incoming preview. Check that both picture and audio are present and correct before starting the event when the stream workflow requires a separate start action.
- Test ahead of the scheduled broadcast, then monitor stream health and audio/video during the event. YouTube also recommends checking the watch page, channel, and mobile access.
- When finished, stop FFmpeg to stop sending content, then use the appropriate Live Control Room controls to end the event.
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; that stated behavior does not establish the same archive outcome for longer sessions. See YouTube’s encoder setup guidance and YouTube’s stream monitoring guidance.

Clear rights before broadcasting songs or sermons
You are responsible for rights to all live and archived content, including music licensing. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content matches. A match may replace the stream with a placeholder and warning; if the content remains, YouTube may interrupt or terminate the stream. A track can also be interrupted even if you believe you have a license when the rights owner has not allowlisted your channel through Content ID.
YouTube’s livestream terms state: “You represent and warrant that you have all necessary rights for the exploitation of the Live Content on the Google Services throughout the world, including, without limitation, music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers (including public performance licenses) and any other royalty participants.” Review YouTube’s livestream terms and confirm clearances for each song, recording, arrangement, backing track, sermon, and archive you plan to use.

Troubleshoot common failures
- YouTube receives no signal: Check that the stream is active in FFmpeg, the media path is correct, and the RTMPS URL and key were copied from the matching Live Control Room event. Keep the key private while correcting it.
- The stream connects but video or audio is missing: Confirm the input file contains the expected stream and that the output codec and audio format are among YouTube’s accepted options. Inspect FFmpeg’s output and the Live Control Room preview before going live.
- The feed stutters or drops: Check the upload connection and reduce the output bitrate or video mode to a level it can sustain, using YouTube’s table for the selected codec and resolution. A loop flag does not repair a network interruption.
- The loop does not look seamless: Infinite input looping repeats the file; it does not promise a seamless join. Review the ending and beginning of the source media and prepare an edit or transition if the gap or discontinuity is unsuitable.
- YouTube warns about content or interrupts the broadcast: Treat this as a rights issue, not an FFmpeg setting. Verify permissions and ask the relevant rights owner about channel allowlisting where applicable.
